Well, we can give you some slack. But that does not mean you can boss people around
Keep you opinions to your self |
I was willing to give you some slack fluff, till your reply to brandmaster. Yes, it does give us the right to boss you around. You know why? BECAUSE WE HAVE LIVED IN THAT PLACE LONGER THAN YOU'VE BEEN ON THE PLANET. I know, that means little to you. You're obviously one of these people that thinks respect is your God given right and not something that's earned. Bullcrap. You have to prove yourself first (and something other than your mouth) to back it up. I started at Sears when I was 19 and the last thing I would've done was started shooting off my mouth about respesct and telling my supieriors to keep their opinions to themselves. I had nothing but respect for anyone that had 10, 15 or 20 years in back then. But I have teenage stepdaughters and I see how opinionated they are and have no problem telling people in authority when they think something they are told to do at their jobs "is stupid". You need to grow up a little fluff. |
Yeah I agree with brandmaster and lizardking. I'm 24 years old and worked for sears for 9 months, until i had to leave because of major transportation issues.
I am not like one of the high school, college students you run into. I worked and didn't expect compliments, I didn't expect anyone to listen to me. I knew nothing about the company except how to run the register, and fold clothes. Later I was offered a fulltime position, because I didn't tell my manager what I was or wasn't going to do. And I listened to every employee there that was older than me, no matter what their position in the company was.
Point is, you don't know what the older employees know, even if they are just a fellow associate. My parents expression was children should be seen, but not heard. Translating to you can be around, but you are told what to do, and not the other way around. Parenting like that is pretty rare actually.

My parents were of the "children are to be seen and not heard" variety. Unfortunately, my wife bought into the "children have a right . . ." mentality and my kids grew up to be brats.

that weird for a 17 year old to be a lead because when I was Human Resource Lead I want to say its said on the interview packets and applications that certain jobs and leads being one of them were only suppose to be 18 years and over not sure if this is only in california, or if your state rules are different from ours.

Are we twins and married to the same person? My wife lets her daughters do whatever they want because she doesn't want to fight. She doesn't say a word to them when they call off work because they want to spend the day with their boyfriends. I got pissed yesterday when my one stepdaughter was bragging to me how she wasn't going to work today because she was going to spend the day with her boyfriend. And it was only her third day of working there. I told her I work with a bunch of teenage idiots just like her that call off all the time because they would rather have a social life than work. Her response was "I'm sorry I have a life, unlike you." Mind you, I know not all teenagers share this same sentiment, but I see more of it at an alarming rate. I blew up when she threw the I don't have a life comment in my face. I tried to explain to her that if I had her philosophy about life, I would never have a job and she wouldn't have half the crap she has now. But it went in one ear and out the other and got called a loser. I told her "That's great, I'm a loser because I have a job and want to take care of you. Thanks." When I told her mother about this, she just said, "You know how teenagers are. Remember when you were their age?" Yeah! I do! If I would've had the balls to say that to my dad, guess what? I might not be here right now! My parents weren't abusive, but they wouldn't have heard any of this bullshit that kids pull today. Our parents were scared that our generation was going to take care of them? I'm worried that no one will be around to take care of us.

Yeah lizard king, I got frustrated with that too, I was a fulltime cashier, and guess who had to come in because of that I have to spend time with my boyfriend crap. I hated that. No department has more high schoolers then the cac.
I also share your experience, if I said that to my parents I might not be here either. I didn't get handed things, no car for my 16th birthday, no paid cellphone bill, not even allowance for chores. Thats how these teenagers should be raised then they would work.

Yeah, considering a 17 year old can't even work the dumpster or the box crusher and California's regulations are 10 times as strict as any other state.

That 17 year old is related to someone or "dating" someone - or maybe both.

This was not in California...apparantly our labor laws aren't
as strict. They also don't post jobs except for those nobody wants. The desirably ones are past around the inner circle.
They have their own set of rules.

I've worked for Sears Roebuck and Co. for longer than I can remember.I remember the Suit and Tie days and how professional we all looked. When we sold Draperies and we had a sales person go out and measure and sell the job as well as Carpeting. You had to earn a place in Commission sales, and it was a job everyone in town wanted. The everyday low prices was changed to everyday the same old sale prices. The $399.99 washer as example ever sell one for $469.99?? Bet not. Then we went to casual shirts and pants in Lawn and Garden Yes and now in every department..Some wear their shirts un-tucked (now thats professional.) we are all in the same boat so why not try and get along?? Put yourself in the shoes of those you work with we ars "Supposed" to be a team here..

I wish the appearance of a uniform would make it work but the problems are much more deep seated than un-tucked shirts-depending how untucked they are.Shirts don't stay tucked in on me especially when moving around.
I hate to say it but one the big things is a name tag and simply knowing your product so you can speak with confidence and have enough knowledge or tools to answer a question or fix a problem without turning it into 20 questions with co workers and coaches.
