1) You know that you have been working to much at Sears when you go to Jc Penny and start picking up the clothes that are on the floor. Rolling Eyes

First thing I did when I came out of surgery a few years back was check the ceiling tiles for stains and look for burned out light bulbs.

Surgeon got po'ed when I dinged him for having dirty air supply diffusers in his ceiling in his post-op survey.

I've said Hi randomly to people, or my wife has gotten pissed at me for fixing a disaray endcap, I've even gotten things off a top shelf for the shorter people, but probably one of the most bizarre things that ever happened to me when a customer of mine bumped into me at K-Mart and wanted me to wait on them as if I was at Sears. I watched in horror as my wife chuckled and took off. I explained that I didn't work there and they said "Sears or K-Mart? What's the difference?" I again explained it was my day off and it wasn't my place to help them and that I would find an actuall employee for them. This was probably the funniest thing I ever heard, they said "Why do you think I'm talking to you? You're closer than anyone who DOES work here." As true as that might have sounded, I still couldn't represent myself in a false manner. I did get this person a live body. The next time they came to Sears I got ripped apart for doing that to them. I didn't understand why this person "expected" me to wait on them outside of Sears or on my off. That was by far the most bizarre.

LK, That isn't really funny. I can't believe that people don't realize that there are boundaries. There is a huge difference between Sears and K-Mart. I'd have made certain that they understood that I am not allowed to work off of the clock and that I can't work outside of my specific location. I think you did the right thing by getting them someone who actually was on the clock in that store.

I had a lady snap her fingers at me to call me over to her for assistance a few weeks ago. I looked at her and gave her a "you've got to be kidding" look and turned away from her. She then proceeded to become more insistent and even more rude. I rolled my eyes at my friend when the customer waddled after us yelling "hey, you need to come back here and help me, I need help GET BACK HERE" I looked at my friend with an evil grin and slowly turned around to face the lady chasing after me. I looked her straight in the face and told her that apparently her bad manners were preventing her from receiving adequate customer service and that I don't blame the associates in this store for avoiding her. I then proceeded to tell her that I didn't work there and that if she didn't back the hell off and stop harrassing me I'd call security to escort her out of the building.

Wish I could have done that at my own store. Embarassed

Sometimes I go to walmart after getting off work. They recently changed their uniforms and now they wear navy blue polos. I usually wear black. Well, people ask me all the darn time for help. If I know where something is, I help them. If not, I tell them I don't work there. I had a Walmart employee treat me like a coworker when I asked for help loading a heavy item into a cart.

He told me to go get "John" to do it. I asked him who that was and he was like, "the guy you work for in electronics!" and then I told him that I didn't work at Walmart and even showed him my sears badge I had stuffed in my purse. He got real quiet and helped me without another word.

Once I helped a short person get some milk out of the cooler. She kept telling me to get one with the farthest away expiration date. When she saw me checking out in the check out line later, she gave me a funny look and asked if I worked there. When I told her no, she turned bright red and said she was sorry for what she did.

People are weird. I frequently rezone racks on impulse, even before I started working retail. I'm very compulsive about messes. Embarassed

Long before I worked for Sears I was a computer weenie. Shopping at CompUSA or Best Buy, I'd wind up offering free advice to dozens of customers. At the grocery store, I'd always offer to help short people get stuff off high shelves. I'm just put together that way.

Now I work in retail and I find myself saying "Hello, how are you" to people no matter where I am. If I lived in the midwest this would be normal behaviour but around here, I'm odd.

was walking in the bookstore the other day (lunch with my name badge on) and customer came up to me and asked me where a title was..... i responded "with the hard cover fiction... what's the author's last name?" he told me and I retrieved the book.... then he said "wait, you work at Sears." and i jokingly responded "oops, you mean we're not in Sears." I didn't even realize what I was doing until I actually was on my way to fetch him the book.... the only one who seemed a little ticked was the Waldens' employee....
