It was just another usual day in the land of fire and brimstone (The Customer Service Desk), and everyone was in their usual sour moods. No surprise there. Anyways, a relatively new girl at our store was checking people out and trying to answer the phone as well. Well, the phone rings, and her exact words were, "Good Afternoon, how may I direct your call?" Harmless, right? Nooooo. I'm standing next to her helping another customer when she goes speechless and tears well up in her eyes. She says she is sorry and it won't happen again and puts the call through to an MOD. I asked her what's wrong and she said she doesn't want to talk about it. So I leave it at that. A few minutes later, the Admin Manager walks up and tells her that the call was the district manager. He was profoundly upset because she didn't say just "how may I direct your call?" What the hell? You're going to scream at an associate for wishing someone a good afternoon?? That makes me irate. The morale at my store is pitiful and so we do what we can to stay strong, and we're going to get beat up for wishing someone good afternoon? The DM needs his damn head checked. What was she supposed to say, "Lowe's, what the f**k do you want?" Corporate sits there and chides us about what a swell place Lowe's is, but I beg to differ, Puppet Master. If you're going to sink so low because someone is wishing you pleasantries, that's not a work environment. That's shear stupidity.

I used to have a DM when he came in walked the floor and said hi to each and every person on the floor, I am sad to say he is now in NC. The DM we have now said hi to me for the first time last week after 1 1/2 years and they still cant figure out why they do so poorly on a survey. Just remeber no matter how bad it gets we can make a difference. PS did you think that girl did a good job, then tell her it helps.
