Anyone being watch as you take your servey???
Our store manager is taking groups of people back to take the servey and marking down the name of the employee and the time we were made to take our survey. Most employees had someone standing over them the whole time of the servey.
Its not going to work for them this time. The employees at my store are sick of it and did the servey as they felt even while being watched.
This servey should have been given to us and or even mailed to our home.
We all know that Lowes does not give a dam what we think so why even bother with such a servey.

I took the gallup survey last weekend. They had us come back to the training room one by one, and do the call. No one stood over us, but I guess they thought they could bribe us by having a big tray of cookies there for us to eat while we took it. Everyone I talked to said they had a lot of 1's on the survey. I guess that button will wear off the phone before any others Very Happy .
The one question that I know got our store was the one regarding employees benig put in there proper deprtments based upon experience. If you have experience in a deprtment in our store, then the chances you will be placed there is a real long shot. Our store manager openly admits that he believes in you not needing to know the department, that it will come later down the road. Your main focus should be knowing Lowe's and its structure/policy. The biggest complaint I have with that is in plubming, where our SOS is soo big, and the only way you learn it is to have experience in it. I did new construction plumbing for years before coming to Lowes, and still do not know what all the manufacturers offer.
Training is another big hit. Everyone is suppose to get there 1 hour of training a week. HAHAHAHAHA. I have recieved maybe 1 hour in the last 5 months if that.

Oh well. These are just another means to help fatten the wallets of our managment, and I for one am against it, so Like most others I hit that 1 button ALOT!!!

Like everything else that Lowes does, they will figure some way to put a positive spin on the survey. Several people in our store would give a negative number if it were possible. One is the most popular number on the phone at our store also! There has been intense pressure on employees to take the gallup. They have used feed'm treats trick, the guilt trip, and every other means you could think of. What I want to know is how do they know which employees to single out to put pressure on, when this is supposed to be completely confidential? Jeez you don't think Lowes would stoop low enough to target people who respond negatively to the poll? I keep telling them I have taken the poll, yet I get asked just about every day. It is a different member of management that asks so they must think I'm dumber than rock if they think I can't put it all together. Nobody watches our employees take the test, opps I mean poll, but with all the cameras in the joint I'm sure someone is staring over our shoulder! If they treated the employees better then I'm sure they wouldn't have to apply so much pressure to have a bettter turn out! The damn thing must be tied to their bonuses somehow. Why else would they waste so much time worrying about it? Confused

I think the reason they use intimidation and pressure ( one year they witheld our paychecks until we called ) is because they get a bonus for 100% participation. That's why they want you to take the quiz right there, to make sure you do it. Some people used to lie and say they called just to get management off their backs. HOW do they know who called and who didn't? THE ANSWERS ARE TRACKED. They tell you the PIN is just to make sure people don't vote twice, but it's really to trace low responses to see who the "disenchanted " people are. They start with the region with the lowest responses, then down to district, etc.... WHY do they want this poll if they are gonna bully you into false answers? The results are published as a list of the top 100 employers to work for. Lowe's wants to be back on that list ( slipped off a few years ago ). This makes Lowe's look like a stable, caring, wonderful place to work. This also gives the stockholders and general public more confidence in Lowe's and stock values go up. It's all about politics. We need to answer honestly and stop feeding the Corporate ego's ( and their familys ). Some people have rebelled and pretended to call, but didn't. They just wanted a break and some muffins. The more they harrassed me to call, the lower my numbers got. If they really want to know how we feel, lets tell them the truth. Maybe they will listen and try to fix the problems, that is the original goal of the Gallup.

Have you noticed that every one got a number to use for your identity. I've wandered if they use that number at G.O. to identify your answers to determine what kind of employee you are and if your dedicated to the company. I think me and oldskool will probably be picked out if they do, because we've seen it all in our time. They say it's confidential but I have my doubts about it, and I wander if this years is better than last years. By the way look at our stock price. Cool

Trust me, Cooter, The survey results ARE monitored and tracked. If you read my last post, this is the truth they don't want you to know. They may not watch every response, but they will track areas with lots of low scores, and narrow down the district and stores. I know this for a fact. I THINK the store mangers might even get a list of employee names. This I DO NOT know as a fact. But I do know your answers may affect your working conditions or put you on the hit list. The PIN assigned to you is not to make sure people don't vote twice ( like I was told ), but to track responses. Again, this was the original intent of the Gallup Polls. For employers to find out which stores or regions have problems and how to make it better. Sensitivity training for managers, communication problems, pay scale doesn't meet community standards, lack of incentive, etc.... Unfortunately this info is being abused and is NOT confidential. Keep mental note of your responses and watch your next review. I, for one, still tell them exactly what I think. Good as well as bad. If G.O. has a question for me, all they have to do is ask. I will tell them the truth. How are they ever gonna know if someone doesn't tell them?

I'd be really curious to see if anyone in management would switch pin numbers, I mean really, if it is all "anonymous" what harm would it do?

The gallup poll is done by a national organization that specializes in these surveys. They would be out of business if they didn't keep your identity confidential. The reason for the ID's and pins is to break it down into reports for each store as a whole. Everyone's answers are averaged together so that stores can see where there problems are and come up with a plan to correct them. This survey helped get rid of our previous store manager, so this poll does make a difference.

I'm confused, Mirage. If they only track down to store level, why doesn't each store have just one PIN number? Why does each person have their own? I personally know someone who was pulled aside an spoken to about their low scores on the last survey. This is not something I heard on the internet or thru the store-to-store grapevine. I still think it's better to answer honestly or refuse to take the survey ( they can't force you to take it) rather than alter your answers because Big Brother is watching. This is the "little guy's" chance to voice their opinion to the "big guy's". We are unheard most of the time, and now they want to know what we think. Tell them what is good. Tell them what issues need help. Most of these issues can be addressed. They can't fix what they don't know is broken.

Mirage is correct. The gallup organization could get into big trouble for not maintaining confidentiality.

and, sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but they throw out all the one's and five's......halo effect ya know.

I think in theory, the cause is good, but lack of action and follow up with the results is the problem.

Rolling Eyes Has anyone noticed that the new Gallup survey is called the "Employee Engagement" survey... or something like that? I saw a letter from our district manager & store manager that actually said that employees that put in 1's or 2's are "disengaged" or otherwise considered poor workers.

I know that I put a 2 on a couple of things, but if you saw my performance reviews you surely wouldn't think I was "disengaged". As for being a poor worker, my co-workers and management know better as I do go above and beyond what's required of me. Sometimes I really wonder why though.... well, actually I know why... it's because I, as an adult, agreed to do a job and to do it to the best of my ability. I may not always be happy with everything at Lowe's, but it I don't like it that much, I'm always free to quit and look elsewhere for employment. I'm also old enough to know that the grass isn't always greener somewhere else.

Lowe's is not the same company it was 6-7 years ago... back during the days of Christmas Parties, all store meetings, ESOP, etc. Now the bean-counters (literally... Niblock) are in charge and making money right and left. Things will continue to change as companies such as this continue to look for ways to cut overhead and increase profits. Retail is retail and it's not going to get any better. All we can do is make the best of what we have or move on. Rock on!
