Anyone else change their store hours? We changed to MALL hours on Saturdays and Sundays. We had people banging on the hardware doors at 11 yesterday eventhough the new hours were posted, and when we told them we didn't open until 12 guess what they did? Went to automotive(which opens earlier then the main store),moved the rope that auto puts up,and just walked into the store. Once again we told them we don't open until 12,and they got beligerent with us saying they were just "looking".Sorry...you can't be in here when we are not open.I am just curious...do any of you pricing/signing people have LP or a mgr. with you on Sunday mornings or just the pricing/signing leads? In my store we are lucky if we see LP or a mgr. until an hour before we open, and we have associates and the cleaning people coming in or leaving at all different times, which means we have to stop what we are doing to go and let them in or out.Not unusual for us to make 4-5 trips to the door between 8 and when LP or a mgr. shows up,and if we don't get there "quick enough" they get an attitude.I THOUGHT that if there were associates in the store that LP or a salaried mgr. had to be there? Guess not??????

They told us they are planning to open our store one hour later, but it is not official yet.

Pricing leads open our store for cleaning people. One of the assistant store coaches is usually in store one hour before the store is open for business.

We changed our hours too recently. LP or ASM there early? HAHAHAHAHAA. Nope, it's always a pricing lead opening the doors. LP might show up a half hour before opening. Even if there is an ASM there kind of earlier, they still expect the lead to open the door.

It would be nice if the pricing lead could keep on working, instead of stopping all the time to let people in. It doesn't help that some people show up a half an hour early and expect to be let in...or a half hour late and still want in...

We are only supposed to keep the door open five minutes before and five minutes after the hour. Oh well.

My old store always changed hours.... We had "holiday" hours, "summer hours", "back to school hours", wouldn't be surprised to see "Eddie Took a Fart and Let's Celebrate Hours"....

We also had that 5 min before/5 min after the hour policy with the doors, but with all the changing hours and my automotive manager wanting me to come in at weird times for stupid "projects", the door was NEVER unlocked when I had to come in and it always meant freezing my ass off in 20 degree weather for 10 minutes waiting for someone to let me in - only for that person to give me attitude about it.

My only question is why are some of you opening at noon? We haven't opened at noon on a Sunday in at least 15 years. Our hours were noon-5 till around 1993 then it went to 11-5. A few years after that it went to a 6pm closing. Then 2 years ago we started opening at 10am and closing at 7pm. As of this past Sunday we went back to 6pm closings on Sundays. But we still open at 10am. I think it's stupid. No reason why we shouldn't open at 11am. Personally, I'm all in favor of bringing back the blue laws and nothing open on Sunday.
I also got an attitude from some managers because they had to let me in and I used to say to them "Only at Sears can you get an attitude for coming to work and NOT coming to work." Some never knew how to responde to that but some made it quite clear that I was disrupting them from what they were doing. "Then leave the damn door open or give me a key. Or better yet, don't bitch because I'm late because you wouldn't let me in." It's like everything we do is a pain in the ass to a manager. But the best part is, they are the ones who set the rules and when they come back and bite them in the ass, they don't like it.

I liked those days. Sunday was a nice quiet day for the family. We'd go to church then go to my grandmother's and have lunch and the kids would play games in the back yard while the adults argued about politics.

Now, the catholics go to church on Saturday and the world spends Sunday shopping or working.

Whatever happened to the day of rest?

I do love the crap about only having the door open at certain time but it usually isn't unlocked so you have to pound and yell for it to get opened. Like you said, if you're late, they give your grief but if they're late, it's your problem.

Doesn't it just start your day off on the right foot. When you get an attitude just trying to get in the door.I always wish I had someone from hoffman with me when
that happens. They ought to know the real bull shit we have to put up with.

Sorry...I think I came across wrong with my vent about having to go back and forth to let people in/out.My point wasn't those of you that have to stand out there.I understand. What I was getting at was that it seems to me it should be an LP or mgmt. responcibility, and not the signing leads'.One of us is at the other end of the store trying to set our ad and the other is upstairs, and when people come in at all different times it seems we no sooner get back to our area and someone is paging that there is someone else at the back door. This is all because LP and mgmt. don't want to come in on Sundays until an hour(at the earliest)before the store opens, and it is hard on us signing leads. It's not like we can sit in the HUB or stand at the door.We are there to get the ad set.

A while back people where told the door will be open every hour so if they are late or early they have to wait for the hour. Now with with different time they are giving people to come in our lead is always going to the back a lot.

We started our Sunday hours last week 12-5.

Sorry thirdtime, my only point was I don't care who opened the door as long as someone let me in and don't give me an attitude because I don't want to be late because they want to schedule me at a time when they choose to keep the door locked. If I'm scheduled at 8:45 am and they have a rule that says that the doors will only be unlocked at the top of the hour, guess what? Why should I have to be late because they have this stupid rule and why should I have to be an hour early because someone doesn't want to be inconvienienced by letting me in when I'm scheduled? You didn't open a can of worms, some of us threw the door wide open when it was only opened a crack. Sorry.

On Ad days I would forget to go to the door every hour, so I started leaving the door unlock. People are scheduled at all different times, or the bus gets them there at odd times, its too cold in the winter for people to stand outside.

I used to be one of the people standing outside waiting for the opening person to come open the door. Many times we have spent sitting in our cars for an hour or two becaus the opening manager forgot to open.

For a few weeks, we would have managers forget to show up and open the doors for us. I think the longest I've waited was an hour...we ended up going to another business nearby and asking to use their phonebook so we can start looking up manager's names. Needless to say, the management at that business wasn't impressed with the management at Sears.

How long do you wait for someone to show up to let you in?

question: if you are locked out, why not just call someone inside on their cell phone from your cell to let you in?

just wondering...

During the last shift I worked at my Kmart store (Monday), the HR manager was waiting for confirmation from the district manager on potentially closing at 9:00 pm on weekdays. Kmart's current hours are 8:00 am to 10:00 pm everyday, 364 days a year.

At my store they do put a walkie talkie attached to the door. Only problem is, it don't work most of the time. And if a manager catches you using a cell phone, they will take it. Not all managers do this, but some do.

hmmm - i meant before hours, but - yeah - employees on the floor on a cell phone looks bad - however....

given that our stupid phone system is routed through both Hades and Manila (and Mars for all I know) we use cells in our store to facilitate communications between the employees

example: a customer appears while someone is on break (commissioned sales) we call cell to cell to alert them their customer is back and ready to spend money

nobody can argue with that.

We're not that close to each other that we share each others cell phone numbers. But I do like that paging system of yours. Cuts down on "hunting" time. And it eliminates the unpopular overhead voice page which they don't want us using anymore either. Maybe we should share each others cell phone numbers.

Sears as far as i know in general is doing a sales flash at 8,815,830,845,9,15,930 and then after a bunch of thoose reports they will determin the new store hours. There even going as far as keeping lights off until 10 mins before the store opens unscrewing unessary light bulbs. And cutting back on supplys. And paper we are sapost to be using paper over on the back side so we dont have to order more.and senal hires arent to start till november now to save payroll were getting cut to the bone at my store even as far as cutting hours by 15% in every dept. And my store was one of 20 of the only profitable stores in the region i can't imiagin what the non profitable stores are doing to save
