Hi I have been working part time for Lowes for over 3 years now and just recently I moved to the unloading crew which is a 21 hour a week position. I make $8.50 an hour while everyone else in the unloading crew makes at least $10 something an hour or more. Do you think HR or my zone manager would understand that I should be making the same as everyone else? Also seeing that I have been working at Lowes longer then anyone else in the unloading crew even though I make less then everyone.
Thanks

I wouldn't totally bring up that others get more....because they'll claim its a violation and try to get some others involved.
Instead....
say someone from another company called you up and offered a job...say hd or menards or whatever box store. Say they offered you $11.25.
that way they might think that you are worth more.
also it wouldn't help to take more stuff on LLC so that way there's a record of it.
they should be able to bump you up at least 10%

I wouldn't make up stories. I would just be up front. You've been there three years. Are you comfortable with one of the zone managers? Go to them, tell them up front. It is not a violation of any policy to talk about pay. They just don't want you to talk about it for the very reason you have.
The sm can give you a ten percent raise, but anything more he or she will have to get dm approval. So either go to a zone that you think can get this taken care of, or go to your HRM

See, they didn't pay the $12 right now to anyone.

If this age of economy woes and the fact that every employer across the country seems to be on a hiring freeze or finding ways to rid itself of "excess" payroll, I think if you were smart you wouldn't say anything right now. No point in making unnecessary waves. I'd just suck it up and be grateful that I was employed and making the $8.50/hr. When the economy settles down a bit and you can see that your store has begun hiring new/additional help, I'd make a quiet inquiry. Just a thought, not a sermon.

Um that's the minimum wage where I am. as for making waves if people don't say things it's assumed they are taking it.
Not all places in the country are doing bad...there's nothing wrong with asking for a raise. You don't know unless you ask.
I'd still take some more stuff on LLC though maybe for power equipment and safety related things

No one should want the moniker of "troublemaker" attached to their name tag. There's nothing wrong with "making waves," but everything we do does have its consequences. I'd still keep my mouth shut and just wouldn't make waves during the tough employment times that we find ourselves in. And I'd like to know just one area of the country where retail is not struggling. It has even rippled through the more traditional money-belt communities in Florida, Calif., NY and Texas.

Money belt? first I've heard of that...north east is the rustbelt.
there's been rough economic times in the past. People have to say things to get things done.
Besides it's not like corporate controls the company. The ownership of lowes is mostly with the American Funds group. Even if you combined all the stock held by corporate it won't hold a candle to what that company owns of it.
