Management hired new people (all relatives of management) - then the oldies had to train them - then the oldies were reduced to 6 or less hours a week. It isn't even to save money because everyone gets paid federal minimum wage in this store anyway (except management and leads). Of couse the new workers training only lasts a few hours and they really can't know everything that fast - so again the customer is getting poor customer service because the new employees can't answer all the questions. Then the fact that they are managements relatives means they don't have to work hard anyway - so the hard physical labor of stocking isn't getting done. Of course while this is going on - we are having that massive clearance blowout - which created alot of work - but really isn't making the company any money. To top it off - tons of merchandise is arriving in the store on the trucks - most has to be price reduced and there isn't anyplace to put it on racks and shelves anyway.

The same thing is happening at my store, except instead of "relatives of management" we hired "absent-minded minors" who are more than pleased to receive a paycheck for standing around talking to their friends and lounging on the sofas in the breakroom for hour-long "fifteen-minute breaks." Meanwhile, we old-timers have our schedules reduced to one shift a week and when we do work, we are handed the insurmountable task of reducing the mountain of merchandise sitting in receiving from that week's trucks so that at least some aisles on the floor appear well stocked while also providing customer service to all customers we walk by AND retrieve carts, perform carry-outs, and clean up any spills that arise while we are on the clock. It's completely disheartening to see how far Kmart has fallen. When I started with the company, everyone contributed to the store's functioning. Now, only a handful of non-managers are left to attempt to make sales while the majority of the sales staff do nothing more than to take up space. Sad

Thanks Soloman - yes often the "relatives" are empty headed teenagers who do exactly what you say - nothing!

I am fed up - looking for another job - but it is a tough economy right now.

I have a strong work ethic - but I simply cannot do 5 other peoples jobs and mine too - and I am tired of being treated like poo because I simply cannot do it all myself.

At this point I am ready to take any other job - even a seasonal one for the holidays.

Sounds all to much like my store .. We mustve just hired like 30 new associates, all kids, all with lazy tactics who do nothing but sit and talk to theirs friends and on their friends. And management has been bringing in daughters/other relatives in as well. I'm also jealous of you who have a sofa in your break room all we have is a fridge, cabinets, a microwave that works when it feels like it, a tv that you can barely see a picture on, a coke machine that is always constantly broken and last but not least a snack machine which is sooo hot on the inside it melts everything ...
