From the Wall Street Journal (got the entire article by googling 'Circuit City close': google news search
Circuit City Weighs Broad Cuts
Quote:
Circuit City Stores Inc. is considering a plan to close at least 150 stores and cut thousands of jobs, as an alternative to filing for bankruptcy-court protection, said people familiar with the company.
Quote:
Earlier this month, the nation's No. 2 electronics retailer by sales hired Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP -- the law firm that oversaw the Chapter 11 reorganization of Kmart -- as its bankruptcy counsel, according to several people familiar with the matter.
Interesting, could Eddie be far behind ?

No, but I suspect he'll kill off stores a few at a time and as quietly as possible just like he's been doing at Kmart all along. I'm amazed that the first of the year closures made it into the Trib since none of those stores appear to be in the Chicago area.

No surprises here, anyone who thought any different after the FIRST time CC eliminated fulltime experienced staff or the second totally missed the boat.
Scary part is that Sears has a couple ex CC execs at the helm now.I think that Kevin Holt guy is one of them.
CC I think was also one of the last to cut back on the mail-in rebates, that's probably a reason BBY and on-line got their computer sales and other electronics.
And the fracking CC execs BLEW the boom/missed the boat by exiting or de-emphasizing the appliance business around the new millenium.Oh yeah, the 'value/extended warranty' buying customer is really paying off now knocking doors down to come in buy.
Again remember Sears has a couple of these ex CC exec clowns supposedly in charge.

Agreed 100%. That lady has had it nailed for a while now. I'm just surprised Freely didn't pull the old refuse to comment routine again.

What bothers me the most when they do these store closings and firings, is that the CEO is NEVER asked to let go his earnings to see what it's like to be left in the dark.

Thank You Goodfella,Outstanding memory!
Here are the ex Circut City execs I was thinking about http://chicagobusiness.com/cgi-bin/news.pl?id=28743 .These 2 are in charge of hardlines which sell the pas which is feeding the same addiction;the extended warranty addiction that is driving CC down/alienating customers.
