All of the salaried employees at our store were advised that they will now be required to strictly adhere to corporate schedules...mandating the extra hours. I personally know of three specialists that are quitting as soon as it is implemented. I'm hourly, so it apparently won't affect me....yet.

Had a situation yesterday though that has me a little upset. When I came in to open, there were two worklists on the desk. One addressed to me, and the other to the only other fulltime in our department. Mine said "when %%%% comes in, tell him to go home and come back at 2pm, he has to close. The other note to the other employee basically stated "If you come in at 8, go home and come back at 2pm, you have to close. Well, when %%%% came in at 8am, I showed him the notes, and he asked what he was to do, since he is a relatively new hire. I told him, if it were me, I am here, and will work the shift I was originally scheduled for, plus, unless he recieved advance notification, a schedule cannot be changed like that. Well, he chose to stay. The end result was I left at 3, he left at 5. That left NOBODY to cover and close in tools and hardware.

I am a team player, and a hard worker, but I have a philosophy that Failure to plan and manage on their part, does not constitute an emergency on my part....have to wait and see what their take is on the situation when I go back in tomorrow. Naughty!

I agree on this one. If mgt failed to plan, then shame on them. If someone called in, that is a different matter. In either case, before they changed this other person's schedule, for whatever reason, they should have called them, asked if they could work the other shift. If not, then everyone is sol, powers that be CANNOT change schedules on this short of notice without the employees approval. yes, I know it happens all the time, and it is wrong. I think that pay is an issue, but this whole scheduling thing is an even bigger piece of what is wrong with the morale of our people. How many times do you have two or three or four openers and one closer. bullshit. Or an opener and a closer only on one day, but five total people the next? This one sits totally and 100% in the laps of the zone managers. Fix this one, and a shitload of our problems will disappear

I am will be starting my 10th day without an off day. I requested one dam weekend 30days ahead of time and I get the pay back.
Working 1pm to colse by your self for 10 days is no fun. It would not be hard for HomeDepot to put Lowes out if they changed their stores around a bit and added some extra help.
