Anyone heard anything about the changes coming next year for Specialists? I picked one up from another site that said they heard Specialist would be re-classified as Contract employees.
A contract worker is hired to do a job for "x" amount of money for a certain time period, they are considered self-employed which means they are responsible for their own taxes and they would have no company benifits.

Cab,
Haven't heard anything like that yet, but it sure wouldn't surprise me at all. There is an old saying that goes the only way he(she) could be dumber is if they were bigger. It seems the bigger Lowes gets the dumber they become.
What happenned to the other retail worker site, no doubt forced out or bought out by corporate america. They can't stand having all those slaves, oops, I mean employees, talking freely about problems, wages and the such.
I'll probe around a little, got some higher up friends that might give a hint, but I'm not counting on it, but if something shakes out I'll post. Where is everybody hanging out these days, not much action on this site, I expected more with the other shut down, or at least I can't access it?

oldskool,
I don't know where everyones hanging out, I try to read all the message boards nightly, but most of the time I'm to tired from long hours and covering other departments to write.
I've been able to get on the other site two nights in a row now, I guess they've been having some trouble or alot of traffic.
I've asked my management why we have less help this year yet we're alot more busy then this time last year, of course they they can't give an answer thats understandable. The truth is they're selfish, they only think of themselves and not the employees. I could understand if bussiness was bad, but it's not, they're shooting themselves in the foot because of all the sales we're losing to Depot because of no coverage.
The rumors about the Specialist at this point are just rumors, but I've found over the last few years most of the leaks that hit the message boards do come true. My opinion is that all the companies including Lowe's are starting to use the message boards as testing grounds for new policies. They know alot of employees come to these boards. I think they leak things to the boards from the Home Office to see what the reaction of the employees will be, if it's something that gets alot of negative reaction they may put it on the back burner, but if it gets little response they go ahead with it. Let me know if you here any of these rumors at your location.

oldskool,
Still out there oldskool ? Hows the rumor mill at your store ? Last one I picked up on is that Specialist may be going to a 40 hr. week in Feb. I wouldn't mind it myself, these 48 plus hours a week are wearing me out. Ten extra hours a week dosen't sound like much but it would be 40 hrs. a month more of family time, and it's also one extra week a month we work for Lowes for very little pay for that week. Hope your still out there and things are going well at your store.

Hey Cabinetman,
Still hanging in there. I kinda fell out of the loop the last couple of months. I have so much stuff going on in my life that it's hard to get on the site and spend much time here. We have a new store manager and the guy seems to have his poop in a group. If you have a concern or problem the man actually listens and will give you an answer. No rumors flying at our store, but like I said I have been out of sync for a while. I see you post on both sites and just don't have time to respond. Hope the 40 hr thing for specialists becomes a reality, cuz it just ain't right what they are getting away with, stealing your time for mere pennies. Hope things are going well for you also.

I think everyone should have a look at these history links. They are not very long.

It's almost time for a major adjustment. Mad
