We resently had Sales Specialist leave and the job was not posted. The SM did not as far as we can tell interview anyone for the position and less than 2 days after the last Specialist left, the job was filled by another Specialist from another store. I thought the store had to post the job and interview to fill the position.
Can someone who knows the SOP on this please explain

I recently had this very thing explained to me by HR. No, the job does not have to be posted. They can bring somebody over from another dept. or even another store to fill the position. There probably will be a position posted after all the shuffling around is done, but it may not be the one you want. I know that stinks, but that's the way it is ...

I think if they post it, that's when they have to interview everyone that's applied. If they decided not to post it, it can be filled ASAP...

the only way that can happen is if it is a lateral move. as in specialist to specialist, zm to zm etc... then it doesnt have to be posted. if someone was promoted to that position or hired from the outside, then that was wrong.

That seems to make the most sense. We recently had our department manager of seasonal step down and she was replaced with a dm from another store. One thing i'm a little upset about is with a team leader position for our store. They hired a team leader out of another store for the same department, but told him he had the position 3 weeks before other applicants were interviewed and a zone ran his mouth about how the other two never had a chance because this team leader was hired.
