Khaki pants does in fact make lowes specialists appear professional. But no offense to anyone at lowes. I wouldn't go to lowes for advice on anything I am doing after working there for 5 1/2 years. The only professional thing to the specialists are the cloths they wear. Most of the specialist did not know how to preform their job function before working there. For example, A cabinet specialist (not to pick on any department) in chances did not know their department before they started lowes. Reasoning...Why would someone leave an outside sales position to be stuck working in lowes for lower wages? Doesn't make sense. Hence why I say no one is professional on the level above their khaki pants.
Its as the old saying goes "the pants make the man".

I have to disagree with you about that. I was a Cabinetmaker, got tired if working by myself and one day the store Manager asked me if I would like to take over the Cabinet Dept., and I did. Our plumbing Specialist is a certified plumber, our millwork Specialist is a also a former Contractor. I'm sure other stores have former Contractors in the Specialist position as well.

I never said that there wasn't contractors in the store working however i am certain that there were pay cuts involved. I just know I wouldn't ask some people that i've seen promoted to the "specialist position"

Don't take the blame farther than you can throw. I would put the blame on yourself over others. You choose to work where you are at. Lowes offers the lowest wages possible because they are making a profit on your sweat. You have the power to quit lowes (which I did and I am the happiest ever) and look for a higher paying job.
The theory the grass is greener on the other side is a true statement. Just don't look for the greener grass in another retail environment.
