the full timers here (associates. not start team. not sure how start team operates) generally work 35 - 37 hrs a week. they all have one short day 9:30-2:30 as well as all other long days. they probably like that now...getting out early. just when they are really used to it and start really making plans (i.e. doctor's appts and such) they will probably pull the rug out from under them and take that away and make them work ALL full days. just a guess.

I heard that they are cutting full-timers to 35 hours. Although, if they are going to do that sign up thing, I don't know how this ties in.

It would be a much better company if they had grandmothers running it!

the term "grandfathering" means NOTHING AT ALL to macy's. they don't care a twit about anyone being there more than 1 year or having great experience/customer service skills. and it shows.
the only thing that is still grandfathered in our store is us MAYCO people still get actual PAID sick time when we are sick. we have to call infoserve and tell them and then we will get it. we DON'T HAVE TO USE PERSONAL TIME TO GET THE PAY, tho we only get 2/3 of our pay for sick time.....just like at may.

a P.S. to that last statement. we have to be "grandfathered" in from may to get that. if someone was at mayco for say, 5 years before we merged, they won't get it. you have to be somewhat of an "old timer".

Does "grandmothering" mean anything?
No sick pay in my store, even for grandmothers. But those of us that are grandmothered DO still get overtime after 8 hours of work in one day, in my store, although I understand from previous discussions that this is not the policy in all divisions.
That's the only benefit that I can think of right now, that we get by being "long timers" anymore.

Oh and worker's comp is also a joke! If you get hurt at Macy's, it is expected that you go to a doctor recommended by Macy's (which technically means a quack) so they give you the okay to work until you are expendible! A friend of mine, who is also a grandmother, developed carpal tunnel and aggravated arthritis brought on by working at Macy's and the company wouldn't cover much in the way of treatment.

Oh, I forgot, they did allow PT grandmothers to keep our health insurance.

In my store I think they actually start taking money "away" from you if you work more than 8 hours in a day.

I have worked at a few companies where they simply wouldn't pay you after 8 hours.
Lowe's had a policy where they paid Chinese Overtime. Basically by the time they took out taxes you didn't get anything for hours worked over 8 hours. A real crock.
Now, I don't get an hourly wage. They couldn't afford me by the hour, they pay me the same no matter what!

Starr,
Just out of curiosity, how many hours do you get paid for vacation? If it's 37.5, then that's how many hours (on average) you should be working each week. Like the other posts have noted, there is very little grandfathering in Macy's. We do have a couple of people in my store who are 40 hrs, but you probably will have had to been employed by Macy's for about 15 years for this to even be a possibility...

Frankone, what if you are "coded" for a certain amount of hours, but you actually work WAY more than that?

WOW !!!!! i haven't heard that term since i worked for Olan Mills looooooooooong ago. i worked for the grandson of Olan himself and he explained the chinese overtime . yeh, it was very convuluted (sp?) so the worker gets screwed in the end. olan mills. that's another company who LOVED to screw their employees. big time.
at our mayco store we definitley got overtime ANYDAY we ran over 8 hrs - even part timers. and of course, every sunday !!
macy's did away with that BIG TIME !!!!!!!!!!!!! cheap bastards.
