A temporary Walmart employee has been killed by a rampaging crowd. They kept running in even after the police were called.

So sad. So sick. Sad

And two killed by a shooter at a Toys R Us in CA.

At the risk of sounding like a pompous ass, I'm not surprised
this happened at a Walmart. A similar thing happened at a Walmart not far from my store a couple of years ago. It was caught on tape and the crowd looked like stampeding cows. It was sickening to see folks in a frenzy for a freakin' TV or game system while people lay on the floor, injured. Walmart's gonna face ANOTHER round of civil suits on this case, as well as some very bad publicity.

Somebody's either got to set up better crowd control, or just say enough is enough.

I think it was hilarious. As you know, I am a teacher, and I needed some stuff this evening so I ran to Kmart. They still had all of their Black Friday Specials setting out and the store was packed. They still had plenty of their Black Friday TV's. The store was absolutely trashed though. Even worse than normal for a Kmart.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see the point of stores opening at 4 & 5 AM. People are going to shop on Black Friday. They will shop at 8 or 9 AM if you have what they want. I don't get it.

BTW, I value sleep over saving $$$. I have never gone out early on Black Friday, and I'm never going to, I hope. Smile

That is BRILLIANT if Dumb-Mart and other retailers sales starts at 4 and 5 why not open at 8 or 9 or 10 or 11? Then you double dip your shoppers. Better yet have amazing bargains later in the day or different bargains throughout the day rather than have them all at one time.

... I read that article this morning thinking that I would never live to see such behavior in MY department (my 1st Xmas at Macy's). There is NOTHING anybody could have told me that would have prepared me for the absolute chaos and destruction I saw when I arrived at 12:15pm. Animals would hang there heads in shame at the slobs who left behind such a trail of trash. Ya know what?... it will be there when I get in tomorrow at 12:15 and they can buy the items off the floor, inside out on hangers, ripped, soiled, etc. I plan on putting it away just like they left it and "fluffing" it for the management. The customers were rude and slovenly, not to mention their offspring in tow. Dirty, smelly, cheap and destructive. They all carry cell phones and MUST be on them at the time of purchase, so you can't communicate with them. Oh, and everyone of them has SOMEBODY waiting for them, so can you hurry up? I'm glad I did not waste the good shopping bags on them. They got the crummy, thin, plastic ones from me WITH the hangers! I hope the bags split open in the food court while they were devouring their 4th Aunt Annie's pretzel of the day ...

Well Hello Red Star,

I can tell there is some resentment there! Black Friday in retail is the worst day of the year. I came to the conclusion that it is worth the pain to break your leg on Thanksgiving day and be unable to work by doctors orders.

Some people are mentally ill when it comes to these sales. Wednesday I drove past Best Buy at about 4:00PM. There was a tent and 2 folding chairs in addition to a porta potty sitting there for a sale that didn't start until Friday at 5:00AM.

I will be darned if I am going tgo sleep on the sidewalk in a big city and not in my own bed to save $30.00 on the stuff that was on sale.

I cannot comprehend how absolutely nobody had the compassion to help this poor man that was murdered at Dumb-Mart. So So So Sad.

Yeah, I predicted this would happen. When will retailers learn to take extra precautionary measures on Black Friday?

Anyway, here's a blog post parodying 'Twas the Night Before Christmas that I did about Black Friday. Enjoy.

A blog I follow summed the whole tragedy up nicely, reacting to Walmart's pitiful attempt at a public statement:

Unfortunate event?! An unfortunate event was me almost pooping my pants yesterday. This is way, way, way beyond an "unfortunate event." You know, it makes so much sense that this happened at Wal-Mart, the epitome of American grossness. I hope that on Christmas morning, when the Wal-Mart savages' children are opening their stupid presents, they tell them "I hope you like it, because I had to kill a man for it."

And Red Star South: "I hope the bags split open in the food court while they were devouring their 4th Aunt Annie's pretzel of the day..."

Welcome, and I think I love you already. Wink

... Thank you for the 'welcome' to retail-worker. I love this forum, as it's a great place to vent.
Came across a pair of stretch, eggplant color, capri-length "Worthington" pants yesterday. They were neatly hung with a crease amongst the tangle of mess on the 66% clearance rack. The rounder also held an associate's black jacket (she had put out a b.o.l.o. for it earlier). Numerous food items discarded within the "inner- core" of all 4-ways and rounders.
I tried to pick up a little bit. I realized it was study in futility when I saw a "free-spirited" family of 7 sitting on the floor in Holiday World. They were plucking Christmas ornaments from the trees and the little weasels were playing with them. They preformed numerous, impromptu sketches over the course of the evening, then abandoned it all in a heap.
So much material I could write all day. ...What has become of mankind?

Again welcome red. Glad to have you on board to vent with the rest of us. Yes, Black Friday or rather Bleak Friday is so overrated. I predict more tragedies like Wal-Mart and Toys R Us adding more homicides in the future.

CEO's of the retail world, are you listening? This is a perfect example of not having the crazy extended hours!! People will shop when the stores are open! There is no reason to contribute to this madness!

Although the people that did this are FULLY responsible for their actions, the companies are also to blame for creating this frenzy, making people think that they HAVE to be there first to get the good deals.

I enjoyed my first Black Friday, in 7 years, without work. It was fabulous! I promised myself that I was not going shopping so I slept in. I do have to admit that at about 1:00 I couldn't resist the $4 and $6 movies at Target, so off to Target I went. It was a breeze though as much of the shopping had died down. I didn't see any advertisement for Macy's though... did they even have a giveaway this year?
