Was just reading an article about a UK study (even the reporter noted that it was kind of eerie that it came out right after that train wreck in Chatsworth a few days ago) that determined that reaction times for drivers slowed considerably more for people sending text messages than for people high on pot and that they slowed twice as much for the texters as they did drivers at the legal alcohol limit.
Now you can take that info for what it's worth as to the accuracy of the figures, but I don't even TALK on a phone while driving. Do you mean to tell me there are people out there behind the wheel herding a 6000 weapon of mass destruction down our streets that are so brain dead as to TEXT while they're doing it?
I'm telling you folks, the apocalypse is nigh. When a civilization becomes that collectively stupid, it doesn't deserve to endure anyway and a mass extinction might be the best thing that could happen.

Living, as I do, near a large university, I am constantly AMAZED by the number of asshats that I see trying to drive and text. When you hit the horn they jump up, startled, as if what they are doing is the most natural thing in the world.
I'm also amazed at how many people text during class. I believe texting is a pestilence.

If you are operating any form of transportation, you should NOT text message. This most recent incident proved deadly to a high degree:
| Quote: |
Federal investigators said Sunday they plan to get the cell phone records of two teenagers and the engineer of a commuter train to determine whether text messages played a part in a collision that killed 25 people.
A commuter rail car lies on its side after a collision Friday near Los Angeles, California.
The Metrolink train failed to stop for a red signal, triggering the Friday collision with a freight train, according to the commuter train's operators. In addition to the 25 fatalities, more than 130 passengers were injured. |
I got this off of CNN's web site. According to authorities, the engineer was suspected of using his cell phone to text teenagers while operating the train that ran the red signal.
Unbelievable.
