an article in yesterday's paper:
headline: garment maker accused of shorting workers' pay
state officials say a new york city garment manufacturer that made clothing for MACY'S, the GAP and other retailers cheated more than 100 workers out of a fair wage.
the state's labor commissioner says workers athe the Jin Shun Inc. factory in QUEENS were shortchanged by $3 million since 2005. most of the employees were chinese. authorities say the factory workers put in 12 hour days, six or seven days a week, but weren't paid overtime or a proper minimum wage.
(AACK !!! there is your chinese overtime, everyone !!!! )
officials say the owners also had workers keep two sets of time cards to hide their long hours. - Associated Press
OMG...don't give macy's any more bright ideas. MLB, have they started with the duplicate time cards yet?
thought you would all find this interesting.
my, my, a company making workers put it a 12 hour day??
hmmm.....sounds like good ol inventory at macy's now, doesn't it?
MONEY, this happened in Queens. can you investigate for us?

I read the article too. It said that Macy's will do an internal investigation. By internal investigation, they mean that they will cover up themselves to not make it known.
I remember one early morning in Herald Square, there were a bunch of housekeeping people who looked like underage Mexicans cleaning the selling floor. I even asked my manager (who I think it went over his head) if those workers were even legal. I hate to sound doom and gloom; however, I feel that if a change doesn't happen soon, the consequences will come crashing very hard on the company.

The hotel I worked at. I made $7 an hour. He paid me $5.50. After 2 months of hounding for the difference he would write me a check for the difference. I got fed up with it and left.

Macy's is abusing ME!!!
Seriously, this is not the first time that Gap, Macy's & the others have been charged with this, in fact, they had to pay a settlement the last time. Actually, that was Mayco, not sure if Macy's was in on that one, but I know that Gap was.

Maybe Kathie Lee Gifford had something to do with it and her sweat shops.

That's the number one thing I miss about Macy's is the abuse. I found it quite exciting. Whips and chains.

Macy's, Inc. has added a news release to its Investor Relations website.
Title: Macy's Goods Were Not Produced in Long Island City "Sweatshop"

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 29, 2008--Macy's, Inc. (NYSE:M)
today reported that a Long Island garment factory cited by the New
York State Department of Labor for labor law violations was, in fact,
not manufacturing goods for sale at Macy's.
"There is no place in Macy's stores for goods that are
manufactured by workers who are underage, underpaid or forced to work
in conditions that are illegal," said Janet Grove, vice chair of
Macy's, Inc. and chairman of Macy's Merchandising Group. "We have
cooperated fully with the Department of Labor and applaud the
department for its vigorous enforcement of labor laws."
An internal investigation conducted by Macy's, however, discovered
that no Macy's goods were found in Jin Shun. But a factory named Zheng
Da Inc. in Long Island City, which also was inspected by the
Department of Labor and also cited for labor law violations, was
making apparently counterfeit goods with labels from a Macy's private
brand. These goods, which were neither ordered nor authorized by
Macy's, were private brand prints from previous seasons and of
inferior quality to those made to Macy's specifications. Macy's, Inc.
is considering legal action against the owners of the Zheng Da factory
for unauthorized manufacturing of counterfeit goods under a label
owned by Macy's.

They only like to abuse their own employees, not other companies' employees.

Umm. Right. Makes me wonder how much they paid to keep it from being known. Then again, I haven't seen agency people taking over for housekeeping, and hopefully they will get rid of those other horrible agency people who are paid minimum wage and are completely clueless.

If you have to resort to buying panties on Ebay, then I worry..........
School Teachers only aspire to buy Alfani and Charter Club, we have to buy ours on the black market in flea markets and online!
Oh how I dream of the day I can go to Macy's and pay full price for a Charter Club outfit!

I'm not kidding. I love nice things, but I never, never pay full price. Even 10% off is better than nothing!
