Daily Show's Jason Jones explores ASU's pristine academic environment
You know... in the entire eight years that Bush was president and in spite of things he did that I didn't agree with... there was never any doubt in my poor, high school only educated mind that he was a "head of state. Apparently, some of the larva of the Arizona aristocracy are having a problem with the concept. There are obviously still people out there for whom the last two elections simply never happened. From David Neiwert at C&L. (Daily Show Video at link) There's no other word than "dumbass" that adequately describes Arizona State University's decision not to award President Obama an honorary degree when he addresses the school's commencement today. Sure, you can cook up lame excuses, such as that the school instead decided to name a scholarship program after him. That's nice. It's still an insult. A dumbass insult. The Daily Show's Jason Jones visited Tempe to get some of the flavor of local sentiments. That same word kept coming to mind as we watched ASU students try to explain why Obama didn't deserve an honorary degree. My favorite:

When you factor in certain other things that have wafted out of Arizona over the years, It's really hard not to find at least a hint of racial implications in the attitudes we see being displayed by the children of Arizona's second tier entitled elite.
Nothing for anyone to lecture me about on what does or doesn't constitute racism or anything like that... just a vague feeling that these folks are rather incensed that the country would elect Obama in the first place. It appears that about 20% of the population of the entire country is incensed for just that reason.

Well they have protested other things
http://www.commondreams.org/headlines04/1012-05.htm that was protesting the war http://wc.arizona.edu/papers/98/80/01_2.html this was protesting bush in 2004. So I wouldn't call any protesting new. As for not giving an honorary degree I'm not sure why that is.. |

But.... why would you give a degree to a guy who can't complete a compound sentence? THAT's my thinking anywho. |

Sometimes people can be different outside the classroom. Some might be just opposite in different subjects.
I worked with a women that knew what dsl was but yet she couldn't double click a mouse! (she was fired later pretty much for that...and boy did the fireworks fly) |
