I'll agree that there's been a lack of serious debate... the lobbyists and consulting companies are being paid dad gummed well to see to that.

On a side note having had relatives in nursings homes (which is straight bs since most people there are not nurses and these aren't homes) is this is totally way up there for price.
Vermont has a interesting program called Choices for Care. Nursing homes are extreamly expensive. I don't know if anyone has dealt with them but from what I've seen personally is it can START at five figures a month. I don't even consider this medical care as it's not medical staff. I knew a women that worked at one and she was paid (not that much but still) to wipe peoples foreheads and maybe change a bedpan.
Choices for Care allows someone to have a friend or relative take care of them in their house. They pay them $10/hr. the state saves money as it costs less. In addition people do get to keep their homes. When these bills mount and there is ownership of a home it will turn into a lien against that property at the drop of a hat. So someone can pass away that received hardly anything and now you are stuck with a property you can't sell (well assuming it would sell...right?) unless you pay this off.
If we don't address these things its going to get much uglier in another ten or so years. Baby boomers might attempt to retire and we could see a faster collapse of home ownership.
