3 months ago my husband was called by the store manager to go out to a customers house and re-set a sink and plumb it as well. The contractor walked off the job because he said the sink was warped, and it was 5:00. Customer freaked out and called screaming to the SM. My husband is a Plumbing Specialist. He has his journeyman plumber license as well. He went out there shimmed the cabinets and when all was said and done he had clocked in at 6:00 am and got home at 11:30 p.m.( He wen't out there at 5:00 P.M.) SOOOO Monday they called him to save the day again. But this time the customer had NOT paid for the installation. I swear to gosh. So at 5:00 p.m. here he goes out to install the sink for these crap people. The jerk could not do it himself and the plumber he hired could not install it on the day he wanted. It gets better. Yesterday he had to be at work at 5:00 in the freaking morning to unload the truck. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE!!!!

madwife,
Sounds like your husbands Manager doesn't have a backbone when it comes to telling Customers no. Customer Service is one thing but it can go much to far. Think what will happen when these customers tell their friends and they tell their friends, Lowe's will be installing everything free and the employees will have to do it. Your husband didn't go to work for Lowe's as an installer, but if you have any kind of experience in any trade they will use you, and try to make you believe it's for the good of the store. If a customer wants something installed they should pay for an install, and one of Lowe's installers should do the work, not an employee.

I can't believe it, since when do employees start becoming home improvement sales and service jack of all trades and master of all for lowes. That SM should be turned in to the RVP of that district. When I was in delivery many moons ago, all we were allowed to do was washers, dryers, refrig, ranges, (to hook up) only electric appliances. We are liable for any damages if (hook-up was wrong) .Now if your husband by any chance had did something wrong and the place flooded who would be responsible. But since it's been 3mths I guess he's in the clear, but that uncalled for on the SM part.

I still don't understand why he had to unload a truck? Who is there to sell to at 5:00 in the morning? Thank god he is a great Plumber. I think a career change is in our near future.

madwife,
You're right, a Specialist shouldn't be there until the store opens. If I'm not mistaken G.O. wants all Specialist to work between 8am to 7pm, but the stores don't pay any attention to that. They're there to sell, and you can't sell if the store is closed. They'll be some that will say that Specialist should be part of the team also, but let me say this to them, Specialist have budgets to meet, and others don't, and you can't work on your budget unloading trucks and being in the store when it's not open. Specialist are on salary for one reason, it's cheap labor when hourlies are sent home.
