Today I sent an email to a local dealer - This is what I had to say:

To Whom This May Concern:

I drive daily past your 5050 W. 38th St. dealership. I observed 11 American Flags attached to your light poles. Of the 11, six are hanging by one lead and the other 5 are equally worn and tattered. Your business is displaying the most blatant commercialization of patriotism I have observed in some time. I personally take exception to this. My son has returned from the war in Iraq. I am a very fortunate parent because my son has returned physically unharmed; he returned to us alive. If you do not know the proper and correct protocol for displaying the American Flag, then I suggest that you refrain from displaying one at all. You can easily find the rules and regulations for respectfully displaying the American Flag on the internet. Better yet, most rules and regulations are included upon purchase of an American Flag. All of the 11 American Flags at this particular address need to be retired. And yes, there are protocols for respectfully retiring this stately symbol of the United States of America and the men and women who serve as its keeper.

I am sending a copy of this email to each of the television stations in the Indianapollis area. It is my hope that you will educate yourself and your associates about the American Flag and that you will retire these 11 American Flags with the entitled respect due its value to this entire nation.

Sincerely

Mrs. Carmen Liggett

I can't believe it - I sent my complaint in on Jan 1st '04 and I have an answer Jan 2nd '04 - below you will find the response from the dealership I sent my complaint - I am at least impressed by the speed in which they replied - tomorrow I will again drive by their business and see if anything has changed:

Ms. Liggett - thank you for taking the time and effort to show the concern
of a true American, and please rest assured that it was not our intention
to appear disrespectful in any fashion toward the brave men and women who
serve and protect us all.

We will investigate this matter regarding the flags at the 38th Street lot
and rectify it with due haste.

Thanks,

Not a bad week's work Mrs DD. Congrats on your letter and its effectiveness.

I've been in Indy several times and am familiar with the area you speak (I've gone to several Indy 500 races). Which Dealership gets all the credit for the quick response? They deserve to be recognized.

no they don't, they were lazy and had no intention of fixing the problem until they were called out.

Footie - you may not be so free with your compliments for this company when I tell you who they are - they have been in some hot water before (I believe selling tactics - but I am guessing) - so on to the unveiling of this used car sales company ----- drum roll --------------- J.D.Byrider - but you are absolutely right - most companies would hem-haw (?don't know that spelling) around, delay, duck and weave, even ignore the complaint - they responded in exceptional great time - the new flags looked so respectful and patriotic -I saw a poll on one of the news channels (I think - been watching so many lately) that asked which country would you rather live - overwhelmingly the count was in favor of the United States - only a few voted for a foreign country

That is a rather pointless poll IMO. Any poll of residents taken in any First World capitalist country would overwhelmingly favour residence in that country. I would definitely vote for Canada, so would all of my friends here (I asked). Currently residing in their home country, my UK friends would vote for UK, my dutch friends would vote for Netherlands, my italian friends would vote for Italy and my american friends would vote for .... yep, USA. Patriotism is not exclusive to the US.

I am not schooled or versed in Canadian politics - but here in the US, the voices of so many people complain, moan, and groan about the US and how much they hate the politics and capitalism - I truly thought there would be more dissenters than what that one poll reported - I was reared in the military and moved here, there, and everywhere as a child - spend much of our time overseas in the Eastern (Orient) countries - don't have any experience in the Western European countries or the southern hemisphere - what little foreign experience I have makes me still want to live in the US or North America

^ ... and if you were from France and were in the french military and moved here, there and everywhere as a child and heard thousands complain, moan and groan about their french homeland's policies within and abroad, and if you still didn't have any experience in the Western European countries or the southern hemisphere and were still not schooled or versed in Canadian politics .... you would still vote for France in a poll held in France among its citizens. Patriotism is not exclusive to the US.

I hope you get my point now. Neutral
