Well i have spouted off alot of my opinions and thoughts of what i thought this company should do to turn things around.( I have made an attempt to make my posts a little shorter as requested and i hope this post is not poorly written)
Well i want someone else to take a stab at it so here is my question. If you were the ceo of Sears today what would you do to change the company around?

I sure would not have six sigma, I would not sell the best asset I have credit. I would get rid of half the over priced management, clean house at Hoffman, and maybe downsize the headquarters building. I would merchandise according to area, why have huge merchandise sit in one store where they dont sell, and then have people walking in another because the merchandise is not there. THat use to fry me when I was in electronics. I would put a freeze on my bonus's till the company was making a profit again. Well that is just a start

ceo to-do list Day 1
1. Initiate subordinate and peer review program as part of the compensation/bonus/review process. Managers will either be civil to associates or not get bonuses and raises. This will change the culture of Sears (or at least save a lot of bonus expense).
2. Put a representative of NARSE (retirees association) and a non-management current employee on the Board of Directors. This should bring some common sense and a fresh prespective to the big old table.
3. Immediately open a series of Sears Appliance Superstores in off-mall locations (heard K-mart had some of those for sale cheap). These new stores would carry EVERY hardline sku we have plus any complimentary items that local store management tells us that they need to be THE DOMINANT STORE in their market.
4. Use the $6 billion from sale of credit division to pay down our long-term debt. Even if we use every cent of it off this, Sears will still have over $20 billion in debt.
5. Launch an initiative to reduce management paperwork by 50%. Most of the current reams of reports are discarded after the next ream comes out.
6. Kill the point system with a stake in the heart. The thing is draining away talent, enthusiasm, and loyalty. Replace it with considerate but fair management. If there is a problem with an individual- deal with it. If there is legit reason that you are late, let it slide.

Remove all the "Yes men/women" - discharge/terminate Carty and anyone else of his ilk - rescind all options and bonuses - slice and dice top heavy Hoffmanites - add 20% to the number of hourly payroll employees within the stores- go back to the drawing board and recalculate earnings for all employees who
"work" - dismiss any employee who wants only to ride the train and toot the whistle but doesn't want or think they should have to stoke the coal - no more subpar employees because they are a warm body - no more freeloaders - that would be the 1st month

with our warning and in casual clothes (as a customer) i would go into several sears stores and see how things REALLY are. i'd make chit chat with the associates as if i was looking for a job, or worked for the competitor and see what they said. i'd REQUIRE the store level management to have actually spent time in the sales positions in order to see how programs really work and how the customers really buy. i'd put the hammer down on the manufacturers. there is no way we should take 4 weeks to get anything, ever. if they can't accomodate, bye-bye. i would aggressively go after the mom & pop stores - it's easier to eliminate that level of competition rather than go after the big box. all store visits would be unannounced.

Forgot a couple management you no longer have to clean bathrroms the demoralizing tactics are over!! The empowerment is back to, you no longer have to run around all day like a madman swiping all returns. The dress code is a joke, but keep the lands end shirts on the company. Circle of Honor is back, recoginition pins the cute little stars, the dinners are back for friends and family nite when we all put in the long days, and points have been turned into plus's SPIFFS are back!!

I would put some of it into delivery. Not all stores are on SLS. We have a contracted local delivery. We can't promise delivery within 48 hours-part of the recharge. Forget about same day delivery!
Put it into installation. We can't promise same day installation-part of the recharge.
We have a beautifully remodeled store, but we need substance. So far, we have almost no TMHT-part of the recharge.

If I were CEO, I would work at store level, anonymously, at least one week every year.
If I were CEO, I'd read all transcripts of President's Line calls daily.
If I were CEO, I'd buy lunch for everyone on Sundays.
If I were CEO, I'd listen.
If I were CEO, I'd rock!

first of all it would not happen, because i could not stand the guilt. there is a special place for ceos. and it is not a pleasant place. sears has gone to far. it had a chance in the late 80s to turn things around. it is now joined the ranks of the evil companies. companies that care about profit and large salaries than peoples lives. no i could not be a ceo. but i think that sears in time will pay for all its hostile working conditions . as it is said what goes around comes around and i think lacy knows this and he is probably full of fear.

We all work for a corporation. The corporation is responsible to share holders, and making money for the share holders.
We do not work 'Realstuff Appliances'....Realstuff would worry more about the associates because there were not shareholders.
If you don't like the corporate world, timewarp somewhere else.
