BUSH: You work three jobs?
MS. MORNIN: Three jobs, yes.
BUSH: Uniquely American, isn't it? I mean, that is fantastic that you're doing that. (Applause.) Get any sleep? (Laughter.)

Leno ran tape of this exchange on the show last night. At first I thought it was one of his satires. Instead it's a perfect example of the chasm growing between the two Americas he's helping to create.

Mr. Bush gives every indication that he neither knows, nor cares, that this is a single mom working three jobs to make ends meet. The implications engendered by her situation, which is certainly not uncommon these days, just fly right over his head in his zeal to sell his Social Security plan, his eagerness to put her welfare during her twilight years in the same hands that have brought her to her present state in the first place. He even makes wisecracks about it.

Amazing that the chief of state could be so ignorant and/or careless of the conditions under which millions of his constituents are living.

Yeah, but look from where he comes from. He DOESN'T HAVE to care about where HIS money comes from. Even married folks have to have several jobs just to support a family. For someone like him or these CEO's out there that make millions per year, they DON'T have a clue. What would wake them up is to lose all their money (fat chance) and see what its like to have to go out and make a living. Rolling Eyes

Man, I shudder to think how many of the rest of us will have to lose everything before any of the elite lose their first dime. Our economy and economic infrastructure just isn't geared to making them pay for their own screwups and/or schemes but rather to making US pay for them instead.

When companies and industries become so bogged down in the results of mismangement and/or outright criminal activity, that even massive layoffs and cost cutting programs can't do the trick any more, the taxpayers can always be made to bail them out. (Chrysler... Savings and Loan debacle...)

Even the most blatant criminals can get away with murder for years before their own greed finally drives them too far even for this administration.

Last time I looked Ol' Kenny Boy Lay (the man who almost single handedly quadrupled my electricity bill in less than two years time) was still a rich man, invited to taxpayer provided dinners at the White House and hugged and smooched by politicians.

Also, seems a good number of his bright young proteges were working at the White House or on the president's staff. All this while the real victims of their gaming were still trying to get on their feet again after losing everything.

With our ever increasing dependency on Chinamart and all things cheap, we're not that far behind up here. How does that saying go, "he who laughs..." Smile

heh, thinking the slowest isn't always a bad thing. It may save you in the event everyone's decision is a faulty one. Being the slowest thinker, you wouldn't have made your decision yet and would have learnt from others' mistakes, saving you from commiting your own. Wink
