A friend of mine works for Walmart. He got his bonus check $800.00. It was because their store did so well on sales and inventory. Maybe if Lowes gave us amounts like this we would give a damn. We get nothing for doing a good job, or maybe "you all did a great job but...." If we pass inventory we get $100.00 well how many stores associates ever get it. They find something wrong with your inventory. Ours is the bad scan rate. Well when no one gives a rat's ass as to how inventory is put in top stock, doesn't do cycle counts like they should be done, how are you suppose to have a good inventory. I will not try to move heavy boxes in top/top stock to get a bar code to scan when I am on a ladder. I like working for Lowes but I am not going to die trying to do inventory.
If Lowes gave us a piece of the pie that managers get in bonuses then maybe we would have more pride in the work we do. Give us that proverbial carrot dangling in front of us and see if we will run for it.

Hot dam classy that sure would be nice to get a bigger piece of the pie. then I could afford the ice cream to put on top of it. LOL. as for our head cashiers and Dept. head have no Idea as to what the heck is going on up front. I don't do the front end thing. Makes the ulcers kick in with all of the BS that goes on. Cashiers hanging all over the counter when they have no customers., going outside to talk to friends, Loaders work on the buddy system. One can't seem to do the job alone they have to work in pairs, why. who knows. either that or they hide. when I call a head cashier on the phone and ask for a loader I get I will see if I can find one or I will ask them. to me there is something wrong with that picture. you never see a loader bringing in lumber carts at all, they leave them in the parking lot for the customers to bring in themselves. I thought it was one of our services to have the lumber carts in the store for our customers, oh well guess that policy is a dead issue. Like I had mentioned before I am from the old school. when I was hired they made us learn all of their policies.
a few years down the road and I am seeing everyone doing what they want when they want. And me Hell I keep going by the book, for fear of one screw up and out the door. I too am an old broad. but I work hard. know my store inside and out etc. oh well the only way I can get rid of my frustation is to blow my horn on here. Thanks for letting me.

When I was a head cashier, the cashiers knew better to lean on the counter. IF YOU CAN LEAN YOU CAN CLEAN. They knew I would find something for them to do. I can not stand an idle mind. They hated me and liked me. The department of the front end always looked good. The head cashiers now don't give a damn, we have one good loader, and two idiots. The one good loader is a little slow, he has his routine, and he can not deviate from it. God forbid you have him do the trash before 7:30 it throws him into a tither. Carts are always in and he is always willing to help anywhere he can.

We also prepared for inventory for 2 weeks. The concentration was on plumbing, seasonal, paint and flooring. Lumber, hardware and electrical did not make it so we could scan properly. We passed inventory, but our scan rate was too low, so techinically we did not pass. No $100 for us. Guess the managers don't get when you put top stock up put it so it can be scanned as if inventory was everyday.

They made some noises about our not making inventory because of our accuracy rating but some how the inventory was budgetted too low and we still managed to squeak under it. ???? Our LP seems to think we'll get it. If we didn't, it would be the first time in 6 yrs. I'm not bragging, with all the ranting and raving the SM does, I think it's a miracle.

You deserve an A+, our guys would not go rack diving if their jobs depended on it. Right now there is no zone manager in lumber. Hardware gets away with murder. They don't put upc's out at all on anything. I can not find anything when I look up. I am the pricing coordinator for the moment until a new girl transfers in from another store. She better get here quick. I have not had acne in 25 years. Now my face and back are broken out. I scratch all day and night. I am a nervous wreck. I hate this job. I am about to loose it on an associate or a customer.
They were so nice to put the main printer in plumbing. I know some plumbing but have no time to help the customer. I had 308 changes today, left with 137 still not done. I probably had 200 upc changes and another 50 description changes. These don't show up on the report and the managers have no idea what is involved in this job. The fill in manager asked the zone manager if I started the day at zero. I told him HELL NO AND I WON'T TOMORROW EITHER. I need help. I usually do the IRP's and then help the pricing coordinator. I don't mind helping but shit this is getting ridiculus.
Thanks for letting me vent. Until the new girl starts, if she ever starts, maybe I will calm down. She is suppose to start disco week. She won't know a damn thing and I'll still get stuck doing most of it. She is coming from a store that has our old SM. He is a nice enough guy, not very bright, but has a problem making a decision. He has not decided if he will let her go yet. She now works in the cash office and he doesn't have anyone to replace her. My manager will be back from vacation tomorrow and I think we are going to have a little talk about pricing.

we passed our inventory. YEAHHHHHHHHH. Another hundered in my pocket. 5th inventory in a row. We didn't hit budget again this year though. (Guess upper management won't bonus again this year. Damn (snapping fingers)).
What hurt for budget was we opened a new LOWES 15 minutes away from us and they took customers away for awhile and they opened up a new HOME DEPOT about 20 minutes from us and they took customers away for awhile. Loved it when the customers came back from Home Depot. They said they loved the store but customer service did not exist. (you mean they exist here???? Wow and we only score bronze)
Lumber is the talk of District. We aren't #1 in selling but we are the MOST IMPROVED. We are stocked to the hilt. If 1 1/2 bunks fits into the rack, then 1 1/2 bunks go into it and the other 1/2 gets rebanded and tagged (item# and qty) then put in top stock. If we need top stock for full bunk, we pull the very top one down and put the 1/2 bunk on the full bunk then back up top it goes. If we can put 2 bunks of lumber into top stock, then 2 bunks go up and it is stripped. In building materials everything is full and remains as full as we can get it. Full pallets on the bottom. Partial pallets on top stock (again marked item and qty) and we use the partial to fill the bottom until the partial is gone. Then we start all over again. A lot more work involed but since it is keeping District and Upper Management off our cases during their walks, then I'll do the extra to keep them out. I put into effect a new attitude for the department and the Department Manager is likeing it, It is called TEAM WORK. WE work as a TEAM and we are rewarded as a TEAM. There is no I work and I WORK will not be tolerated. We do not assign aisles for anyone since WE WORK AS A TEAM. Monday we start on 1 aisle and by Friday we finish up with the last aisle. We do this even though we are constantly receiving freight. We also decided this year that we will not allow any OUTSIDE LAWN AND GARDEN STUFF in the bullpen. If it comes off the truck, we tell receiving to drive it around to LAWN AND GARDEN. Lawn and Garden will not come to the bullpen to get their stuff and the bullpen gets full quick now so no more. Also HARDWARE is a target for us. They will not put away their ladders so whenever we get a truck with their ladders, we will break it down and put them on carts and send it to them. What they do with them once on the floor is their business but it wll not come back to the bullpen. (IF we can't have LUMBER in the bullpen, then nothing else will go into the bullpen)

Bear, please please please come to our store. Our lumber team is awfull. Never do we have full anything. I was told to scan for IRP's if it is half full and it shows we have a lot. They never down stock. Lumber is always needing help. I have know idea what they do all day. Well one of the guys talks to his girlfriend who works in appliances, but for the others they must be out back picking their noses cause they ain't on the floor. Millwork is just as bad. Today they started FINALLY to clean up the department and get stuff filled. Summer is coming. For 2 weeks there has been no insulation down. Really sucks when the customer has to wait for us to bring it down. One cashier(big guy, could be related Bear) is going to lumber on Monday. He doesn't move to fast as a cashier so we will see how he does in lumber. Team work. Your plan sounds great, if every department worked an aisle a day the departments would look great. If lists were made to 5.3 would make me happy. Can't sell it if we don't have it for months and months.
I have had a rotten week and am not real happy with any department. Yes, 1, paint. They are starting to work as a team, but as usual Home Decor is not part of that team even though they are to be one department.

Our lumber dept. is just as bad. We have a team leader that when you call on the phone and request that a customer, who may happen to be a 90 yr old man etc needs help over in the plywood isle. all you get for an answer is SO. I hate when this person works. Another time I had a customer who needed help loading. one of the guys from lumber was standing around the commercial sales desk throwing the bull. When he was asked to help this customer load. the answer was So and So says we don't load. This was said right in front of the customer. There are only about 2 guys that are worthwhile in our lumber dept. The others either hide or just walk around in circles ignoring the customers. never do they rotate the isles to see if anyone needs some assistance. I thought our motto was customers first. Oh well again that comes from my being from the old school. Have a happy. Try to enjoy Easter even if we have to work. SOB'S.

I work for WM and my bonus check (after taxes) was just over $500.
WM only gives out those checks if they make a certain amount in profits. (I forget exactly how it works)
I've worked in two different WMs. Both have been open for about 13 years. The first one that I worked in, the associates got a bonus every year. The one I work in now has gotten 3 bonus checks in 13 years. This was the largest one they ever got.

I was a Wal-Mart employee for several years at a very very high volume store. We got our bonus every year and we worked hard to get it. I would rather work at lowes and get my commission and get my $200 inventory bonus a year then work another day in hell aka Wal-Mart
