Surprised

I heard that, along with the base closures, the .mil is offering 15 month enlistments now.

I need to clarity my posting of the above since it caused a right wing meltdown when I posted it (in a purely private area) on another site.

My nephew is in the army. National Guard actually, but you know what I mean. He's in Iraq and has been since the beginning of the year, He's got (supposedly) another five months before he comes home. While he's been gone, the company his wife worked for downsized her out of a job. In the meantime, the lumber yard he worked at in Elk City has pretty much been going downhill and has said that It may have to shut down before the end of Summer if business doesn't pick up. He's been as downhearted about all that as he has the situation in which he finds himself.

He sent me the link that I posted above to let me know that he's not discouraged and still has a sense of humor. I thought, having taken it in the context in which HE meant it, he was right.

Apparently there are some rather thin skinned people among the admirers of Mr. Bush by whom any indication that you do not agree with current or proposed policies is taken as a personal affront, including jokes and attempts at humor that they see as being "left wing attacks".

I removed the post from that site and resigned my position there. I'm not going to edit/remove it from here. If some of you see it as a personal attack against your hero, I'm sorry. In the first place, It wasn't posted to be such and in the second place he's not my hero.

Nor am I gonna get in any left/right Rebublican/Democrat pissing contests. I posted the link because I thought it was funny not because I thought it was real or political. If some people can't handle that, that's tough. You will get over it eventually.

Thumbs Up I haven't laughed so hard in a long time.

As democratic enviroments go, it's nice to have freedom of expression. In fact, it's essential to any democracy, whether in the U.S. or Iraq. Glad you found it on this forum, Nofsdad. Wish for your nephew a safe return.

I caught that too sleK, along with a rather pointed advisory to read the fine print carefully before you sign anything. Smile
