Wanted to know how others feel about the spiffs given to sales associates working in appliances. I don’t think that it is 100% fair to other departments. Sure I can make a 1% on a SOS item, but that is not much compared to the number of on floor appliances being sold. They sell a 1000 refrigerator and get $60 spiff. I sell a $400 toilet and get nothing. I work in plumbing and we are right next to appliances, sure they tell you, you can sell appliances, but that isn’t fair to the sales associates in that department or to my own department. I think that appliance associates should get something, but not sure how much, management stresses team lowes, but is it really fair. Why can’t some items in plumbing have a spiff like lawn and garden or every one shares the spiffs to some degree?

I do think that there should be some spiffs in every department. I work in electrical so count your blessings you get more SOS's over there than we do. Luckily for me, our appliance guys are SOOO nice, whenever they get busy, they call me so I can get a few sales in, and our plumbing guys are always "no call, no show" so I've become well versed in M2O.
Myself and a fellow department manager have decided that we want to become appliance specialists. Higher base pay, all those spiffs, and NEVER have to unload the RDC truck!! LOL
Someday I tell ya... someday!

I understand exactaly what you mean about appliances. The thing is, appliance spiffs don't come from Lowes, they come from the manufacture. Say Maytag is trying to push a product, it gives incentives to the sales people that if they sell a specific maytag instead of whirpool they will get a certain amount. Then whirlpool will offer an incentive too. Bascially companies do that to push their product. I used to work for Best Buy and it was the same way. My biggest beef is that if an appliance salesperson sells a product that we are out of stock on just to get a comission and we have to ICB it, that costs the store money and they should get their commision taken away. When the delivery drivers have to go to another store to get a product you sold, the store looses a lot of money-gas, overtime etc. We in turn get less money in raises, because that comes from the store's bottom line. The sales person who sold that product should loose the spiff because they cost the store.
P.S.-I am a department manager in lawn and garden and we do not get spiffs either.
