Greetings,
A friend of mine is going on Aug. 22 for a job interview at a new Lowes that is opening in about a month. She actually already submitted her application for a part time position , but at the initial interview they encouraged her to consider full time employment there. I don't know if they were "smoozing" her, but the asst. manager complimented her highly on her ability to work with people, etc.... (he also knows her from her current position which is working closely with the public but not in retail) The position that she will be interviewing with is working in the flooring dept in a sales position (speicalist maybe?) and it is salarried....that is all I know. They did tell her that she would be paid overtime after 40 hours. Can anyone give me info by Monday that I can share with her:
In your experience, is this a good entry level job at Lowes? Would she be entitled to commissions? Would she have to be certifiied? Would she routinely be expected to work over 40 horrs a week? What is the pro/cons of this position? Is there a lot of pressure on sales people to sell all year round (I'm thinking that by the time this store opens the big construction season will be over). In terms of salary, what could she expect to get? I think she is currentily making about $12.00 an hour, could she get more? She likes her current position, but there are drawbacks and really no place to advance, so she is thinking of making a change.
Any info you can give me on this would be greatly appreciated!!! Especiallly in terms of salary negotiiation
Thanks a bunch....

Well there are only 2 states in Lowe's land that have overtime after 40 hours... California and 1 other (Im not sure) Everywhere else we work 48 hours per week (minimum) and get what you would call chinese overtime.
As a specialist you are entitled to commissions (everyone that is SOS certified is). And provided your department makes its budget, you will receive a monthly bonus, up to $500 depending on how much over you are. The certifications for the departments are easy. And having worked in Flooring, electrical and plumbing.... tell her to stick with flooring. talk about EASY!
She should certainly make over $12 per hour, so tell her to shoot high and if they want her bad enough she'll get what she's asking.
Hope this may help a little bit.
