just wondering if any other stores have been screwed by contract sales, having customers come to the store, waste our time, then purchase. then have some ass from contract sales, or sears select tell them to cancell the sale and buy from them. this seems to be a problem with my store. in july i lost an $8000 sale, and a $4000 sale. other associates have lost just as much. this has been an ongoing problem. curious if this is happening anywhere else

don't shit on my head and tell me it's chocolate cake
i just price match the contraact sales...they even have the balls to tell the customer to come into the store pick us apart for our knowledge, and then buy from them...i am good though, and have convinced customers to cancel orders from contract sales and buy from me instead...i ususally leave a much better inpression on my customers than most other people i've met!

We were told we can not price match contract sales. I do hate that they come in a spend all of our time, then when you ask for the sale they tell you oh the builder said we pick them out here and go through him. You want to scream

This is not a new problem. We fought that 15 years ago. I'm sorry to see it's not gotten any better.
Best suggestion I can give you is ask a few more Discovery questions up front so you can get to the fact the customer is working through Contract Sales as quickly as possible. That way you're time investment is minimal.
Also... ask your Manager to contact the local Contract Sales Manager and demand that organization stop fueling that. If it still happens, escalate through the District Manager, then Hoffman if that won't fix it.
Don't allow this to keep happening. My experience has been when Contract Sales is called on it, they stop, at least for awhile. I do not believe it is proper procedure on their part to do that. Call em on it.

sears is their most competition to themselves. yes have a customer come into a store. talk to the sales rep and then call their contractor and get a lower price. sears undercutting themselves does not make any sense. they have been doing it for years. anybody remodeling a house can contact a remodel company and then sears cuts the price . great idea. also the customer who buys his appliances and put them on his mortage is nuts . a refrigerator that they save by cutting the price to 500 and they put it on their mortgage cost them over 30 years is not smart anyway./

i agree with footie. ask a few more discovery questions. is this for a new home? are you buying your appliances or is your builder? if they say their builder, a couple things work great. tell them the stuff on the floor is different from the stuff in the catalog (it is). tell them you have no idea what the builder has access to because each contract is different. if they continue to hound you, push crap. go take a phone call. tell them to go ahead and browse. DUMP THEM. the chances that they'll buy from you are slim.....

When ever I see somebody looking at built ins with a clipboard one of the first things I ask is "some of this built in stuff takes some time to get, how soon will you need it?" If it is within say 3 months then I try and get them to order...much longer than that then you dont have much chance to close it today.

Where is it written that we can't match contractor sales?
Hmmm, I think I'll look into it.

I do the same thing I tell them do you know that you are paying for those appliances on your morgage for thirty years. They freak sometimes you know sometimes you have to use fear factor. I then bring in the close, the models that they are usually offered are mid range, the uprgrades are not much cheaper then us. I then explain well you have finace free here break it into 12 payments pay it off your done, you got the upgrade you want, no finance for thirty years. If you explain this, it is something they dont think about it and it is so true there nuts to do it. I also explain you can get the store behind you 100% satisfaction and not play run around trying to get your builder if you have problems. Because if they call with problems we send right over to contract sales. Their never there. It works alot if you explain this

Not a bad sounding answer Low........but just wondering..... What would be better? Financing your applicances for 30 years on your 5.5% mortgage or paying for your appliances for seemingly 30 years at 22% interest?
Now that statement won't make too many people happy to see I know. It's just me wondering out loud again.

To sort of change the subject but staying with seeing things in writing:
We were always told that we had to work at least one Sunday a month. Some of us want to work Sunday and some others don't because of religious reasons. So, why would a person have to work any Sundays when there's plenty of others who do? Our schedule also goes a lot smoother on coverage if Sunday is a regular day off for some. We were told it was "a Sears policy". I asked where was this policy in writing. I was told it was "in the office", and I didn't push to see it.
I looked up the policy on the intranet and (I'm not quoting), it includes a section that says that if you are going to require someone to work on Sunday you should consult a lawyer. I know that our store has this policy because we are in the bible belt and everyone would want Sunday off for religious reasons. But, if noone is complaining in our department and there is plenty of coverage it makes no sense. I can guarantee that if a couple of managers said, "You know, we'll work all the Sundays so we can have 2 week days off and you other managers never have to work Sunday", thy would be done.
The man has put Sunday as one of his nonavailable days. He has the policy in writing in case he ever needs it.
