Due to the abuses from the drug/junkie people and totally off the mark reaction from the 'enforcers' the average sober non- criminal American citizen now must sign for simple cold medicines containing psuedophrine. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2005/sudafed.html .There are several lessons to be learned or reinforced here.1st; in the legislature's usual manner the have attached an admendment or bill to a piece of legislation intended for a completely different subject-in this case the domestic security or the new 'Patriot Act'-and they attached it to that legislation on purpose-they want to make you 'seeeeem' un-patriotic if you are opposed. They want to make very cumbersome and awkward for you to oppose this. And they do it all of time which is why the line item veto is often a hot topic because again if it's used you are tampering or editing someone elses work in it's original form.Legislatures have given themselves pay raises like this-at least they do it in the middle of the night-literally.I am for drug enforcement but I want drug enforcement to the keep our freedoms and quality of life high(pun intended).Be aware this is done in all walks of life.READ and THINK about everything you sign.

I am not a fan of the big drug companies but I must agree with them in their opposition to this 'sign for it' bill. When businesses get too many UNnecessary regulations placed on them it does raise prices for the consumers. But when society contorts the intended use of their products for ILLEGAL activity shouldn't it be the society's job to correct any abuses/problems.This is nothing more than a form of cost and responsibilty shifting. And the argument how can drug ABUSE be a disease should be brought up.Should I sue and beverage company if I get hit by a drunk driver?-Seems like they're sacrificing diseases-the junkie gets more priority than the law abiding citizen with a cold. And that citizen with a cold will be forced to sacrifice their PRIVACY-medical at that so the junkie people can do their thing. You now will be on record for signing for cold medicine-better not answer NO to any type of medical or cold question on a job or insurance application-even if you forget. This will raise cost since volume will go down, people will now start going to the doctors office for the sniffles since just picking up some cold medicine at the local supermarket is now a Hollywood movie production. And those same sniffles could turn into something worse or be spread more easily untreated. Some might even go to the doctor just for privacy thus raising insurance costs. And to combat this new law the drug companies will be doing more research(research and developement costs passed on to YOU) on alternatives to medicines that already work to have a product to sell to the public.Come down on the junkies and dealers and not the businesses and citizens.

"Crank" is very dangerous and addictive (think crack) and it's raw material is sold on pharmacy shelves. Years ago, people have had to sign for cough syrup containing codiene. If you are to fight drug abuse (and crime), you have to control the access to this over-the-counter medicine. People who are hooked on this sh*t are supporting their habit by breaking the law every day, stealing, robbing, and 100 other evil ways.
