How America got lied into war
| Quote: |
The President "lied" us into war. Much of the pre-war intelligence was wrong. The civilian defense chief was detested as "brusque, domineering and unbearably unpleasant to work with." Civil liberties were abridged. And many embittered Democrats, claiming the war had been an utter failure, demanded that the administration bring the troops home.

Good article and I agree with the authors premise that the outcome will ultimately decide its value. However, I think it's disingenuous to draw parallels between the actions of the president during a civil war and the the actions of the president during an invasion of a sovereign nation.
It's one thing to fuck with you're own country, quite another to fuck with someone else's.

Yeah, definitely apples and oranges there. There are no parallels between the war for secession and the war in Iraq. I'm sure there are better arguments out there without having to make that stretch.

Absolutely.... the US administration has literally ignited a firestorm.... And for the Dairy Queen, I am NOT a "parrot"... just a person who values the concept of SOVEREIGN governments, and the freedom we now enjoy in the US....
I like pickled beets.... many people don't..... I don't push beets down the throat of anybody... and I damn sure don't make them pay me so I can buy beets with their money...

I see no parallels with Lincoln and our current administration… there is one BIG difference $$$…. I don’t think Lincoln had personal financial benefits in mind.
From an editorial in our local newspaper today: “As long as there is big business in war, there will be war”.

A Republican president, Dwight Eisenhower, who had built his entire life and reputation around fighting wars, was trying to tell us that way back in the early 60s. We never listen.
