I look at the postings on this forum because I have worked for Home Depot (Expo) as well as Sears and I must say you appear to be a happy bunch of campers. I would believe this except I saw for myself what working for the Depot is like including the constant indoctrination. You couldn't get away from it! The Home Depot channel was always playing on the tv in the breakroom. Even during breaks and lunches one had to listen to that crap. Then there was the mandatory Sunday meetings that we had to attend even if we weren't scheduled to work that day not to mention the rah rah morning meetings where we sang the 'ole' rah rah fight song. All this enthusiasm and still the store closed! Why? For my part it was the most difficult environment I ever worked in (including Sears). The layers and layers of do-nothing managers, lack of help, antiquated systems and a complete disregard for current technology (we couldn't even get on the internet to get specs, etc., poor customer service, Interior Designers that didn't have a clue about appliances even though they were working on kitchen projects and the list goes on. So don't tell me your all grinning working under these conditions. Get some balls and share information that might make a difference. I heard many old timers talk about how great it used to be and how much it had gone down hill. Reminded me of Sears!

"The Home Depot channel was always playing on the tv in the breakroom. "

We never have the sound on. . .I often just turn the d- - - thing off when I go into the break room.

Thank goodness there are no Sunday meetings or cheerleading sessions at my store.

All of the ASMs at my store are good, save a recent transfer ( I think she was outrunning the tar and feathers brigade ).

Technology is improving, though our computer system still sucks big time.

Major problems I see: Too many petty rules and regs; way too much oversight and micro-management; too much worrying about unimportant issues; Safety-gone mad; treating associates like disposable pawns; Nardelli trying to turn HD into a new branch of the U.S. military.
