Hit pretty close to home for me but firefighers are actually pretty well paid these days. You can definitely substitute just about any private sector service job for "firefighters, though". Quote: "Firefighters who want to live in high-priced cities can work two jobs", said W. Michael Cox, chief economist for the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. “I think it’s great,” he said. “It gives you portfolio diversification in your income.” Quote: Portfolio diversification in your income: what a great idea! What a pity there are only enough hours in the day to work three full-time jobs; otherwise we could all diversify even more. Admittedly, we'll have to put more of our eggs in fewer baskets as far as leisure and child care are concerned, but the added security that comes from having a diverse earnings portfolio will surely compensate for missing out on the rest of life. Plus, if our children never get to see their parents, they will undoubtedly become resilient survivors who have learned to do without human affection; this will prepare them well for their entry into tomorrow's still more diversified job force. Now if only we could figure out how to do without sleep...

Quote: Now if only we could figure out how to do without sleep... Shhhh. Don't give anyone ideas. I've had a sales manager work me through my meal breaks, 7+ straight hours on the sales floor. You don't need food, you don't need sleep. But hey, your income portfolio is diversified!
