After recently applying to Sam's Club and Wal-Mart, and finding out that both places give you "credit" toward your starting salary for retail experience you have (up to 5 years), I'm wondering if any other retailers do it? I know sears doesn't for experience from other companies. I was pretty amazed though, Wal-mart gave me 5 credits since I've been at sears almost 6 years now, plus another credit for being there more than 3 years. So at 30 cents a credit, that got me $8.45 an hour which I don't think is too bad being that I'm going into a "regular" position at a retail store, basically just starting out.
I never did find out if the credits were worth the same at sam's club (probably), their starting wage was $7 vs. $6.65 at wal-mart. I wanted to get on at sams but the only full time stuff they had available was overnight positions which I didn't particularly want. But I figure I woulda been making closer to $9 an hour there. Ah well.

Walmart has/had alot of troubles but SEEM to be trying to amend things but one thing I noticed about Walmart is that they are willing to try different things and seem to react alot quicker to things like lawsuits, news stories or the market in general.Hopefully this will benefit the employees in the long run. Most retail will start you at about 7-10$ per hour if your lucky:problem is that alot of retailers don't really want you around any length of time as a full-timer and unless you work commission you'll never see 'extra' pay;no overtime,no differential pay for nights and weekends and many companies are eliminating extra for holidays saying things like 'if you don't like it don't work retail'-they're trying to make it SEEM normal as an industry practice but if any industry tried to control the product price the way they do pay they would be charged with price fixing.
