sleK, Is there some way to limit # of posts per day per person?

| We should probably let supposed vetrans as Bodyguard have more posts per day since she/he has said that their opinions out weigh others simply based on being with the company longer then others. | |

Im know how to go deep  whoot whoot. You might be right. You have posted more then me but i may have posted more words. I really dont believe any limits should be placed on posts. If that was true me and bodyguard would waste our posts on an endless battle of debating eachother We would use ours up in less then 20 minutes:)

failing to comment on the last couple of posts in this topic i would say that we should allow for people to post as much as they like....
although, sometimes it takes a bit of time to sort through all the stuff that has been written in here, even if you visit more then once a day.... and sometimes 2 or 3 topics will show up with the same basic posts in them |

Not via software, no. The way to limit post counts is by "raising the bar" so-to-speak: encourage members to spend more thought on their postings by doing so yourself. Lead by example. Quality over quantity. Signal : Noise etc.. Another way to reduce postings is to discourage trolling and off-topic posts. Once again, lead by example: ignore obvious trolls and carry on with the topic. Stick to, and react only to, the points and ignore the filler. Keep a thread on-topic. For example: in this very thread, every reply made so far has nothing to do with your original question. Let me explain: BG's first post is a perfect, albeit mild, example of a troll (the post BG, not you). Nothing to do with the topic - simply an off-topic reaction. SM dragged this thread further off-topic by acknowledging the off-topic post thus further opening the door for even more off-topic replies. What SM did is refered to as "feeding the troll". And, as I'm sure you're all aware, the first rule of discussion forums is "don't feed the trolls". Had BG and SM both demonstrated some restraint, this thread would likely have only two posts: your question, my answer (or, ideally, other members opinions of possible solutions and/or commentary addressing the question) thus saving us time, bandwidth, disk space and consequently money. No offense intended to either BG or SM but you both, literally, walked right into this one.

| why would anyone even think that someone's ability to post should be limited? The only limits should be if you are posting unrelated topics just to be a pain in the you know what. | |
