I work for HD and find it a very discrimanating place to work. When I joined there were 3 people in my dept. and the schedule went like this: assoc #1(dept. supervisior) got Friday and saturdays off; Assoc#2 got Thursday and Saturday off; assoc #3 got Thursday and Sunday off. I worked every weekend. When asked why I was told by the Dept. Supervisior "Thats the way the schedule works out." I then went to the Dept. head and told him about it. His reply was "Talk to your Dept. Supervisior." Now assoc #1 (dept. supervisior) has been transferred to another dept. and the DH made assoc #2 the dept. supervisior; Assoc #3 got fired, that left the department with 2 people
Guess what. He gets Friday and Saturdays off. Meanwhile I work every weekend. A new person started a few weeks ago and they get Wednesday and Sunday off. The Dept. Supervisior has already told me, quite a few times for that matter, that he hates me. He has threaten me quite a few times with bodily injury and disrespects me to the max when conversing with other employees.

Is this the way HD management treats their employees? Because you are new and not HD from the start you have to suffer like this. I have 10+ years of retail and retail management experince and I am really baffled that management at HD would even tolerate this behavior. I have document alot of bad things that have happened inclunding dress code voilations. The blacks in the store dress ( T-shirts, baggy jeans, non-depot head gear, etc,) the way they want to and come and go as they please. Meanwhle the white guys have to toe the line about the drees code or be written up and/or fired. Cell phone abuse is another question. The blacks (espically the women) use them constanly, on the register, in the breakroom, on the floor, it doesn't matter. Meanwhile, a white employee came in the store with one hooked to his belt and he was told to take it out to his car and leave it there. It comes down to the point that I have given HD 2+ years of employment only to find out that HD is not what i seems. My last day will be this Friday and I wish all of you well because I am moving on.

Boy, talk about rough. Sounds like Sears. I work in one of the warehouses and its the same way there. We have a lot of Hispanics that work for us and they get ALL the special treatment while the whites and blacks get shit upon. Very discrimitory practices. Naughty! Naughty!

Hey Dave,
what's the possibility of communicating w/ your store manager, or whatever Human Resources rep may be available? Are you concerned that they would decide on some retaliation? Would they respond to a positive request? Would other employees be interested in supporting your request - i'e: have requests of their own along the same lines?

DOCUMENT EVERTHING!! The threats especially - get corroboration (witnesses, others w/ similar experiences w. that person). Save these, and if you have to, contact main office HR, and you may have to retain an atty. Whatever you do, don't respond negatively (threats back at him, shouting, drama) - that's what folks thrive on: getting others to lose their cool, then go "Ohhhhh - you're in trouble now".

Don't let the least among us bully those who are trying to do a good job, and live a positive life. We shouldn't have to flee from those types. Be brave, be smart, be methodical - support whatever position you take.

Dave,

Some of the things you said don't add up, including your math. There's no such thing as a DH AND a Dept Supervisor. I doubt you've been w/ HD for two years. If you had been, it's probably been in the Lot the whole time. My calculations tell me that you're an ass. Adios!

No I am not an ass and your attitude is just what I am speaking about. Dept 29 has a DH. Appliances is in K&B and thats where the problem lies. Appliances has a supervisior or is supposed to and that where the problem lies. The appliance supervisior refines thee schedule, does the appliance ordering and problem solving. The DH had no clue about appliance ordering or the ordering system (Depot Direct). As for you, IBLEEDINALLDEPTS, you are the typical employee at HD. Rude and ignorant (espically to the new HD associates), I walk on water type because you have a lot of years there. Good for you because I have noticed that the HD associates like you have no clue about being a team player.

Naughty! NOT. Actually, I am quite the opposite of what you describe. I am well very well respected by all of my peers the store over as well as at other stores I've been in. The management looks to me as responsible and dependable as well as for guidance many times over. I do not kiss their ass and they respect that. I am more than just a team player, I am a team builder and help others to see the multiple perspectives to different situations. I am often sought after by fellow associates. Your descriptions of your situations sound very close or narrow-minded. You refuse to see the flip side. It sounds like YOU'RE the problem and not the other way around. It seems that you have many people against you and you're fighting back. Ever think that maybe the problem lies w/ you and not w/ management, store operations or other employees? If I had all these things against me, I think I would begin to wonder......

It just really pisses me off when I hear people spouting off that the company, store, all other employees and customers (not that you mentioned those) are f*#ked up and not look at themselves to see the deeper problem.

"You refuse to see the flip side."
Enlighten me' What flip side????

'It sounds like YOU'RE the problem and not the other way around.
How am I the problem? I worked EVERY weekend (Saturdays and Sundays) for two years while everybody got at least one or both of those days off. HD hires a new person and right away they get Sundays off.

"It seems that you have many people against you and you're fighting back."
All I am asking is a Saturday and/or Sunday off and I am refused while everyone else in the deptartment is given the the time off WITHOUT even asking. I hardly doubt that I have a lot of people against me.

"Ever think that maybe the problem lies w/ you and not w/ management, store operations or other employees?"
When it comes to unfair treatment the problem doesn't lie with me. I follow the dress code and company guidelines only to find certain other people break the rules on a constant basis with nothing said by management.
Look, I don't work there anymore and I had my exit interview and when asked why, I let them know exactly what was going on. To say it was an eye opening session for the managment is to say the least. There were aplogizes and promises of change if I stayed and the rest of the BS that goes along with it. No Thanks, I will take my 12+ years of appliances sales and managment and move on.
