I posted this in another HD forum and no one would get near it seems perhaps people are either afraid to comment or don't care so, I'll try here.:
We recently had a new manager move in to the store where I work after being without one for over 3 months (yes I said 3 months). He is not only threatening people with their jobs, in closed meetings he berates all of his DH's and states (in so many words) that no one in the store is of any value. He complained to the head of the pro desk that his main sales person was worthless (this individual is the top Pro Desk sales person in the district) and when the New Mgr was informed of this he had nothing to say. He absolutely finds nothing good to say about anyone's performance and constantly seeks out petty and very insignificant things to rale people about. He is by no means a very good manager and since his arrival moral has dropped to an all time low. Some of us have been at this store for several years and a lot of us are very new (70% turnover rate) the labor pool in this area is extremely small and he comes from a city store where I'm sure he's use to people knocking the door down for jobs. Unfortunatley in this area all it takes is one person of value to walk out and tell the community about him and no one will apply. I worked very closely with a vendor rep who later became the district manager for his company, he is a very easy going person and does well with people. Upon his first encounter with the new Mgr his first response to me was "What a Dick". Ok so what I'm getting at is this, he has only been with the company for a year and a half and is a former DM for Target. I want some info on this person. I myself was berated by himn at a DH meeting behind my back before he came to me with the so called problem that actually didn't exist. Needless to say I was quite angry that he didn't bother to confront me personally before atacking my work and checking to see if indeed things were the way he thought (which they weren't). I came very close to calling the 800 number but haven't (I'm not sure it would do any good). His name is Rick Polgar, his last store was in Phoenix, not sure which. Any info on this man would be greatly appreciated.
Hope someone can help or at least share any suggestions.
Thanks

His name isn't Steve Colburn or Steve Harvey, or a young punk named Jeremy is it. Unfortunately this kind of ass is the norm now-a-days, and the only solution is to either get a new job, or if that isn't an option, hunker down and wait for him to get a promotion. Another unfortunate...if not ironic...norm now-a-days is that this type of ass gets promoted quickly. Rest assured, he wont be around too long.

Yea, this loser so called manager is on his way down the tubes, call the line, better yet send the same email to good ol' Bob Nardelli bob_nardelli@homedepot.com, who knows maybe he'll listen. Some things have changed on-high. We need better management in our stores to succeed and be profitable in the future.

My condolences re your new mgr.
We had a SWEETHEART of a fellow where I was when i started. He had a nice word to say about everybody, and you WANTED to bust your butt for him. Because he genuinely CARED.
Well, we all know what happens to those who care in HD, right?
Actually, the guy's wife got a new job and he moved with her. Hope they're happy! (Hope he was smart and quit HD!!!)
Than came the re-tread. A tired middle-aged man with a bad heart who was shipped down from a Box store. Hoo boy. "Asshole" is too nice a word for this SM. "Cum-stain on the carpet of life" is closer.
This guy had one attitude. Bad. He sounds like the aforementioned SM, in that he held people in fear of their jobs. His mantra: "The only reason you do a good job, is that you have a job for one more day."
Which is one day longer than a lot of people could stand. A lot of folks quit, some hung in there and the bootlickers flocked to him like flies to shit.
When our RTV clerk's summer house burned down he laughed to our Receiving mgr. "He prolly faked that story to get out of work." When that got back to our RTV clerk, he promptly brought in the Fire Dep't reports for SM's records. (Good for him!)
Well, I hope his little piss-ant store gets crushed by Lowes (Which ain't saying much, but still....)
