Well I've seen it all throughout the years.. Sears going from weekly paychecks to bi-weekly, to basically forcing people into Direct Deposit, to making the bags cheaper, heck I don't know how that saves them if a bunch of them tear.. the medical program gets worse and worse every year (back about 3 years or so ago part time regulars could get it, and there were many more choices for hmo's..).. I could go on and on as to how they try and save money.. but here's the new one.. I've heard they are doing this in a bunch of stores, and they already have in mine.. TAKING DOWN LIGHT BULBS.. the spotlight type style.. they plan to save 10-15 grand a year I guess in our store from this.. Our store already is really dark.. it's in a mall, let me tell you every store, even the tiny ones have way more light then we do.. what kind of shopping enviornment are they trying to provide for customers? In our store it's about 78 degrees with 60% humidity every day, and in the winter it's like 60 degrees or so with low humidity.. I mean geez.. what is next on the cost-savings plan when your taking down light bulbs.. ya know?

If they REALLY wanted to save money, hell, upper management can take them light bulbs and shove them up their a**. If they fart around enough, they could light the whole place up!!

I recently went to a new Sears store in the Triangle Town Center mall in Raleigh and it was the brightest Sears store I ever seen. They use energy efficient all over the store. They also used recessed lighting all around the perimeter, lighting all the walls. It really made a noticable difference.

You must work at the same Sears store I do. I call it the Kathy Lee sweatshop. Customers come in and tell us it is so hot that they are not going to shop here. Sears has this attitude of "It is not what it will make for us, but what will it cost?" Gets worse every year.

Don't remind me about the ties. I can remember standing there waiting for a customer sweating like I just ran a mile. I think one time is was around 82 in my area.

In our store it has been on the brink for two years. Somedays it works sometimes it doesn't. Not much they can do about it, they said it is not in the store budget to replace it. They are prompt about getting someone out to look at it. But customers do just leave they cant stand it

about the same. This has been going on for two years with the air. It drives the OPs manager nuts, but they will not replace it.

But see it's hotter then hell on the floor, and humid.. I mean it's so bad, if I do any type of work such as get up on a ladder and pull a few things down or put a few things up, I practically break into a sweat.. but the managers don't seem to care.. But in our hub office, they re-did it a few years ago.. the air is wonderful back there.. believe me.. it's fantastic there.. Sears thinks about cost but they don't even consider that they drive business out of the store by not having good shopping conditions for customers and thats the main thing, since obviously they don't give 2 you know whats about us workers.. But they spend a ridiculus amount of money on signing in the store for an ad that last 1 day or 3 days,etc.. and they don't re-use a lot of it.. they get new stuff in most of the time.. big overhead signing.. I mean that stuff is very expensive.. so they care about that.. but not the enviornment customers come to shop in as far as temperature and lighting and things like that go..

If they are going to turn the thermostats up in the summer and down in the winter in the stores, is Hoffman going to experience the same economizing efforts. Afterall, they sit in their offices at their desks, we have to walk, gallop, and sometimes even run; and in winter, our tool cash wrap is located in the crosshairs of both entrances.

My store got a new cooling unit. The air is wonderful. Unfortunately, I work very hard and am sweating profusely. The back of my hair is usually extremely wet, even though I have very short hair. When I take a lunch break my hair dries. But by the time I am back at work it is wet again.
How wet do you ask? Well let me tell you I have sweat running down my brow. It is dripping off my ears. My glasses are constantly sliding down my nose.
Well don't I look professional.
As far as the heat, Sears does not heat up the store in the winter time. It is the lights that keep the place warm. I can hardly wait for winter to be here.
I used to think it was because I used to work upstairs. But I have proven that I am hot no matter where I work.
The only place that has heat is the automotive center and the vestibule right inside the doors from the outside.
If you get cold you can put on a sweater, but when you are hot, there is little you can do. I try to wear as much cotton as possible. I guess I will have to work slower.
