Sears Reports July Comparable Store Sales
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill., Aug. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Sears, Roebuck and Co. (NYSE:S) announced today that comparable domestic store revenues decreased 0.8 percent for the four weeks ended Aug. 2, 2003. Total domestic store revenues were $1.9 billion in July 2003, down slightly compared with the four weeks ended Aug. 3, 2002.
"We were pleased with July sales, which were in line with expectations and featured strong apparel performance across men's, women's and kids' categories, led by our Lands' End and Covington brands," said Chairman and CEO Alan J. Lacy. "We were also pleased to see higher major appliance revenues, despite cooler weather that hurt air conditioning sales."
Off-mall revenues were slightly below prior year, with low single-digit increases in both hardware stores and dealer stores offset by a mid-single digit decrease in The Great Indoors. Lawn and garden, particularly riding mowers, tractors and patio furniture, continued to show strength across all formats.
Sears, Roebuck and Co.
Looks as if sales were down yet again...however the trend is starting to become positive. FLS stores have posted a small increase so far for the month of August.

I read on the Ask Alan site that an associate asked why Alan kept using the excuse that weather is a factor for our sales being down for last two years.... Mark C. answered ..Your right we should not use the weather as a factor , for everone has weather ,,,,, I dont remember the rest of what was said.. I 'll go read it again.

Ask to see a copy of the WE50 report....it shows sales by line by division....company took a big hit in A/C last month....and still is.....
It breaks down the business by store, district and nation...a great report that should be shared with everyone on a regular basis....

It's there Low, it just isn't broken down like it is for footwear and fine jewlery. In fact there is only one or two lines on it. It's in the hot news, first article, about the 4th or 5th line down.
