http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/ticker/article.asp?Feed=AP&date=20060808&ID=5927648&symbol=US:WMT .Walmart announced new higher starting salaries but caps on raises in 7 job categories as well.Good and Bad-a new hire will get more money per hour but long time employees get capped.Walmart says it is to help attract more applicants-(hmm,recently announced plans to reduce full-time work force) and attract current employees into management.Too me 'manuevering' a person into retail management/salaried position/little or no overtime/off the clock hours is nothing but another way to 'use' their experienced workers in different pay structure. It also gives many some incentive too leave. It amazes no end that these companies who can't wait to get rid of the same employees who helped bring the company into prominence. That story cites a cashier who had been there for 14 years-Walmart has a decade long run at this point and don't you think that the experienced loyal employee helped in that? NOTE the cap on cashier pay at Walmart is over 15 dollars per hour-what's the cap at Sears?

Over $15 an hour as a cashier? Damn, wonder how long you'd have to be there to get that.
I'm actually looking at going to a new wal-mart opening locally...they said they give you credit for every year of retail experience you have (up to 5 years), and all jobs start at $7 an hour, so I'm hoping to get at least $8 an hour (will help pay the bills that's for sure)

Why do we let retail get away with this arn't we as workers who put up with more than most desearvent of a decent living. Retail has been abusing part time for years and should be reined in on it.
