I apologize if this offends anyone. But it strikes a strong cord in me, as I am proud of my nephew who is home, finally... and he is quite devoted to his religion.
---------------------
THE ATHEIST AND THE MARINE
A United States Marine was attending some college courses between assignments. He had completed missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.
One of the courses had a professor who was a vowed atheist and a member of the ACLU. One day the professor shocked the class when he came in. He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, "God, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform. I'll give you exactly 15 minutes."
The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop. Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, "Here I am God. I'm still waiting." It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got out of his Chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him; knocking him off the platform. The professor was out cold.
The Marine went back to his seat and sat there, silently. The other students were shocked and stunned and sat there looking on in silence. The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken, looked at the Marine and asked,
"What the hell is the matter with you? Why did you do that?"
The Marine calmly replied, "God was too busy today protecting America's soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid shit and act like an asshole. So... He sent me."

This story is either 100% fake, or you left out the part where the police come and escort the Marine off the premises where he is charged with assault.
You can't preach freedom of speech and that our soldiers protect that freedom by talking about how a soldier nocked a guy out for using the right. It's illogical and exactly what I would expect from people who make up these idiotic little stories.

Actually, it is.
It is representative of some of the freedoms we take for granted in our country.

Explain, then, what protects our 'freedom of speech'.
It works both ways if it's truly free.

Fake and old, it's a story nothing more.
Freedom of Speech also requires tolerance to such speech, it's the proverbial two edged sword. You can't have freedom of speech yet shut someone up because you didn't like what they said, that's called a tyranny. Not only that but yeah marine would have been arrested for assault and probably received a dishonorable discharge as well.
That and IF god were protecting our troops, how come upward of 3000 of them have died, along with thousands more civilians? Guess he had butterfingers when wielding his omnipotent 'veil' of protection over those troops whenever:
1. Suicide bomber made himself into human puree
2. Drove over a bomb
3. Kidnapped
4. Anything else.
The song that comes to mind upon hearing such garbage is Johnny Cash's "Man In Black," most noteably the phrase
"And I wear it for the thousands who have died, believin' that the Lord was on there side, And I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died, believin' that we all were on there side"
Tell you the truth I have a beef with the person that came up with that garbage, because the guy thinks he has a message to send that in reality is just complete bullshit. Every single part of it with exception of the spaces he leaves between words, because that's the only part that doesn't scream excrement.

Many people seem to embrace it as some sort of
patriotic allegory about our fine boys in uniform delivering some
well-deserved comeuppance to the misguided elitists of academia. The
story is crafted well enough to appeal to most Americans. And that really
is the problem. A lot of people are passing the story around as a
'feel-good' story. What they clearly missing what the the story is really
about. I've sent some of the folks back a 'slightly' modified version to
illustrate the real lesson being taught:
"A fireman steps back from the rubble of a house that has just collapsed
and killed two members of his engine company and three children who were
trapped inside by the fire. With tears in his eyes, he laments out loud.
"There is no living god who could allow this. If there is a god let him
strike me down right here right now, too."
After several moments, a disheveled man in a a beard and Islamic prayer
robe steps forward and strikes the fireman down, knocking him unconscious.
"Allah was busy, so he sent me." the man says.
Now I'm curious who you'll root for this time, and more important, why?
Surely you won't be swayed by the change in description of the characters
or the setting. It is your principles that are the measure of your being.
If your true patriotism came out siding with the Marine after reading the
first story then I trust you'll continue to side with striking down
another American for his words and beliefs in the second."
