Boy Says Teacher Forced Him To Urinate In Lunchbox During Class

The teacher will not be coming to school. She will be relieved of her duty with pay as the school district investigates, officials said.

"If you gotta go, you gotta go," student Quonterious Thomas told Eyewitness News in an interview Monday.

Thomas, 13, says his language arts teacher, Jameeka Chambers, gave him two options when he had to go to the bathroom at Meadowbrook Middle School in Orange County. She said he could wait until the end of class or use her lunchbox in the back of the classroom.

The sixth grader said he used her lunchbox.

"If I had waited any longer, I would have peed on myself and that would have been even more embarrassing," Thomas said, adding that his entire class of 19 students and his teacher watched.

When Thomas told his mom, she said she didn't believe it at first and later realized how traumatized he was.

"I have never, in all the days been living, ever heard about anything happening in all my life. This is a really big shocker for me," said Shameka Bryant, Thomas' mom.

Orange County Public Schools told Eyewitness News the claims are under investigation. The district has taken statements from students in the class, but has not spoken to the teacher.

Chambers has been out of town at an education conference in New Orleans. This is her first year on the job and her record is clean.

"I'm seeking counseling for him, asking questions. What was the purpose? I want to know," Bryant said.

Orange County Public Schools wouldn't specifically comment about what happened. The district says teachers have to allow students to use the restroom.

Is this another good reason to homeschool your kids?

Just exactly what does this have to do with the story posted?

Orangjello dont like to be called Orange Jello
Lemonjello dont like to be called Lemon Jello

makes ya wonder if mom has just ran out of names or maybe they do it on purpose due to a hard childbirth, to get back at the kids and make their childhoods miserable. Kindy like being called Woody or Arty as a kid. I'm sure someone will turn this racial, before you do My name is Alex and I'm American Indian , put that in your peace pipe and smoke it

My observation has been that it only makes CERTAIN people wonder anything.

Maybe... JUST maybe... it's just people from different cultures doing things differently in order to give their children some kind of identity of their own in a world that has reduced all us Toms, Dicks and Harrys to mere numbers.

*shrug*

an identity that might get their applications ignored in many quarters

whats in a name?

a good deal...

just like 'Myron' or 'Poindexter' will get your butt abused on the playground 'Quonterious' will severely reduce your call backs for jobs

when i see names like that, my thought is "why handicap your kid with a name like that?"

i'm a realist, and i've SEEN applications laughed at because of the names on them.

i'm not saying its right, i know its illegal... but i am saying its a bad idea

But why? Because those names point pretty surely to a specific race or ethnicity? What kind of an asshole employer or HR slug would blow off a job candidate because of his name?

Actually the name sounds Roman to me, like Marcellus or Cassius or like that there.

exactly because of race

read the two links i provided

they did a quantifiable survey and discovered that was exactly the consequence of an uncommon and/or ethnic name

But that reflects worse on the bigots doing the hiring than it does anyone else.

What you're saying then, is that these folks shouldn't give classical African names to their kids if they want them to grow up and be able to get a job in our color blind, classless society? That rather than try to right the wrong they should just go along to get along? With racists?

Illegal isn't the word I would use. Way too mild.

Well damn, just look at it. You're not saying it's right and you know it's illegal... therefore you know it's racists and elitist as hell... and yet you HAD to call attention to the names in you're initial post? Sounds like more than "realism" to me.

.

or (and here's a far more plausible explanation for you)

having seen first hand resumes being rejected for oddball names, and having read the summaries of that well known 2004 study.... those names jumped out at me as a self imposed workplace handicap Doh! and i was reminded of the effect when i saw those two rather uncommon names in an intersection of events.

Very Happy
