Okay, so the other day I applied for a Merchandiser/Stocker job at a Circuit City store. I think I applied this past Tuesday, and I got a call from them Wednesday afternoon. I missed the call, and they didn't leave a voice mail message. I matched the phone number up online before calling, and called them back shortly after. Apparently the lady at Customer Service was the one who called me, because when I explained the situation to her, she asked me what my name was. She looked through whatever paperwork she apparently had at the Customer Service desk, and didn't see my name. She asked for my phone number and put me on hold, and I guess looked again. Then she came back on the phone and was still looking...and casually called out my name as she looked. She had forgotten my first name that quickly, and was looking for the wrong first name. Then when I told her about it, she found my application.

So she schedules an interview for a week away - next Thursday. That has to be the longest interview waiting time that I have had.

I could understand something like Monday because of the weekend coming up within a couple of days. But...a full 7 day week away just for the interview itself? Is this normal for Circuit City stores? I can't recall any Retail store that I have interviewed for or worked for that scheduled an interview 8 days away from the day that they called me, with no holidays or anything in between other than a typical weekend. Has anyone else experienced this or could any current employees give an explanation as to why the wait is so long? I know that Retail managers are busy a lot...but I do still think this is quite some time away just for an interview. I mean, I'd like to have the job, sure. I'll still be going to the interview, of course....I just thought it was a little strange. Any tips for the interview, from those who have worked there or work there, regarding getting hired for the stocking position?

I have a couple of years of Retail/Stocking/Sales experience working for Office Depot (got promoted once while I was there) and 3 years of Customer Service experience. I already know the whole bit about dressing nice, bringing copies of a resume, references, etc. Any idea what they start out pay-wise? I know that this company has had trouble in the past and let their highest paid associates go at least once (and it seems it may actually have been twice) after many years of service. I'm not expecting it to be "too grand" there...but it's a job, and better than the nothing that I currently have. I'm pretty sure that I applied for full-time as a Merchandiser. I like the fact that they have stockers and sales associate separately - not sales associates doing the same thing like we had at Office Depot. Do they hire for Merchandising outright, as full-time? Thanks.
