still there but I'm in an area where they are laying people off left and right and I'm talking about big companies ( we even have those people coming to Sears and applying for full time jobs.),so I have to stay until I find a decent job. I'm looking but the ones I find that I want I don't have the experience and I can't afford to go to a trade school or college. I'm just one of those people who is stuck between a rock and a hard place right now.

I quit a month ago today. After 7 years at sears, it's hard being the new guy again, but it's already well worth the struggle of moving on.

just retired after alot of years - don't want to give specifics, but not even a good-bye, a party, a pizza or a donut! How rude and uncaring. And I was a damn good associate.

Put in 20 years and then retired....There used to be a time when I loved going to work, but in the past 5 years it became the roller coaster to hell
Went back part time after a 2 year retirement and couldn't believe how radical the changes are that have occurred in my absence. It was like landing on a strange planet...there is virtually no "Sears" the way I remember it when I first worked there.
The best part of going back....I get 11 to 20 hrs. is that I really don't give a shit about the bullshit....PA hype, Credit App hype....ad nauseum....I just take out of the place whatever I can in the way of commission sales (I'm in HA). When I walk out the door, I don't think of the place till I have to go back in.
The sad part of all of this is that I really used to care about this company and my place in it. That was before they started to administer the daily beatings.
The few old timers that are still there...one guy has 30 years...the other more are scared shitless that they will wake up one morning...go into work and find a lock on the doors...What a way to live.

Tomorrow I start my first day at the new job after almost 18 years at Sears. Ya know, it was just getting scary there with all the cut, cut, cut. I worked in the Commercial Sales side for a couple years and with the decline in the housing market, the lack of business made me really question even having that division. I can see having the outside sales people who get the builders (most builders just order directly from them spec packages), but the in store appliance select centers seem like they could be eliminated for the most part. We were branching out into tools, lawn and garden, home improvement, electronics. Just too much to have to sell and I felt like a rather specialized cashier - supposed to know everything about everything in the store, which is just impossible. It really was starting to feel like we were canabalizing the retail side to get any numbers. I feel like a kid going back to school tho, not knowing anyone at the new job. Got the butterflies and the whole thing.

I worked at Sears for 8 years and left in 2006 for a government job. I was a sales associate, cashier, and receiving associate. I don't know what took me so long. I doubled my salary the first year out.

saw my old manager at a restaurant the other night.... i was the "lowly 21-year-old sales associate", yet my new job instantly increased my income by 40% and my new benefits package exceeds anything Sears would ever offer.
I always hated that man and I knew he always hated me..... haha

I have been pursuing other options, will take one as soon as possible....am sick and tired of working with that PA sword dangling over my head, and all of the delivery screwups, etc.....not to mention the low wages, and evening/weekend schedules that I seem to always get....
