I know no one wants to even THINK about this yet,but the fall flex guides are in the stores now and the 4th quarter MSP's due in any day.Last year we were one of the test stores for having the trim shop at the mall entrance.Guess that didn't work out real well because we were told it would be in HI this year. They are talking about toys going upstairs near kids.THAT is going to be a pain in the butt for us in HL signing/pricing with the 2 seasonal depts. on 2 different floors, since we are also MCAS.In the fall flex guide they talked about expanding our assortment of My First Craftsman and Kenmore toys.OMG! We about gave away the My First Kenmore stuff last year(still have the stove and refrigerator) and we kept the Craftsman junk which is taking up needed space in hardware and we haven't sold one piece since last Christmas. But they are going to expand the assortment????????? Doing markdowns this week on just about all the exercise accessories and outdoor games to make room. Christmas prep in August...gotta love it!

Last year we had the toys in kids depart. of course there was no room for it so they had to get some of the baby furniture off the floor, move some of it to mattress area, take some of the mattress off the floor to make room for that. What a freakin mess that was.
This all could be hassle free if they just not have a gift bar. Gift bar is just merchandise we have in line which in turn they don't send enough to cover the gift bar and what's in line so we have empty hooks most of the time. To me a gift bar should be merchandise that was packaged for a Christmas special. At least with not having a gift bar we have room for toys and trim shop. But of course that would make sense and we don't want to make sense when it comes to Sears.
We also have the craftsman toys from last year. We couldn't even sell them when they were marked down. I'm not sure what we have in the Kenmore side of toys I've really lost track on that stuff.
My lead hasn't said anything about trim shop this year so I don't know what is going on with that.

Personally I'd just change out the end caps and throw in some rolling racks with X-Mas STUFF.It's too early to even think about that crap, especially in the gulf area. What if a hurricane hits and people need stuff like tools, generators, chain saws etc and your worrying about 'gifts' for xmas? Hours and resources would be much better spent worrying about the now.Back to school isn't even done yet.

Hey, our Toy shop has been up in kids for the last several years. Usually HL takes care of any pricing for the toys...and softlines helps with stocking. Typically, softlines takes over with keeping the area stocked.
Last year, we hired one person to take care of Trim shop and toy shop. That was all that person did. It didn't work out much because the person we hired was terrible, but I think a more competent person would have worked out great.
I don't know if that would work out with anyone else's store...but you could see if you could work together to keep toys under control since it would be in a softlines area anyway. It's only for about two to three months anyway.
