I really don't think that it's because of "Old People Working". Trust me, I've worked with some total bitches, who have been with the company only a few weeks. I've also worked with very young leads, who constantly watch what everyone does wrong, have no experience, and think they are something because of the title "lead". Age, or years at Sears, have nothing to do with it.

I don't think it's necessarily a function of old age.Every company has old timers or 'survivors'.Sometimes their attitude has evolved to a certain point because they've been left uncoached.Or that's how they were treated or what they saw.
My thing with 'old timers" are the old Sears execs and management that hung on TOO long.Too many older Sears management just went into survival mode with the ends justify the means attitude to make their 30-35 year career or retirement after Lacy took over in 2000.You had a bunch of old dogs that wouldn't or couldn't learn new tricks.
The Lacy Era management just wanted to guarantee themselves space on a life boat. And even the newbies who came to Sears or got promoted during those years learned off the very same old timers who caused many of the problems being experienced today.
Sears is the only job I had where I thought I was being spoken to by a THUG when dealing with management. And somewhere down the line those thugs either learned or witnessed that behavior in an enviorment where it was practiced and accepted.

You must be asleep at the wheel a bit to not realize their are bigger enemy's lurking in your mist then a co-worker that put in 35 years. ~GoodFella

If she's put om 35 years, that means she's been there for the entire downhill slide and as far as I'm concerned, she's earned the right to bitch.

This is not directed at you personally but some times its hard not to be a bitch. In our store some young people (not all) treat this job like high school If they're told to do something and they don't want to do it . They don't do it . The rest of us have to suffer while they they hang out or just hide out. I 'm talking about cashiers mostly when it comes to recovering the store at closing or maintaining during the day . They'll take a whole hour to count a drawer so they don't have to help clean up.I could go on ....the idiot managers don't have a spine so they don't say anything.

lol im a nice person, but I just hate when theres a woman that thinks shes Jesus cause she has been with the company for half of her life. She should get a hobbie insted of watching what other people do.
I swear this lady needs to get smacked. I actually got in to an arguemnt on Friends and Family Night wirth this woman. I snapped at her cause she would not leave me alone. I went to the mens cash wrap to answer a call from LP, then this woman bagan saying shit about me. Oh im wonderingf off blah blah blah.....I could't take it. Got in to the argument infront of people. Im surprised no one complained.
Oh well, my manager told me that shes bitchy and to ignore her.

I'm thinking that this woman has witnessed the decline of the modern day work ethic. "Back in the day" people went to work to do a good job and earn an honest day's pay. This is no longer the case. Many of the workforce only want to go into a job and socialize with their coworkers while one or two actually do the work that they all are getting paid to do. Very frustrating in my opinion. There is no age restriction on this point both old and young do this very thing. Then there are a few of us who care.
I have observed that many people are put into managerial roles without having any type of management experience or abilities. In today's workforce in retail it's often just a warm body to fill the position not the one with the best ability to do the job.

They made a 17 yr old high school drop out a lead in our store
...she couldn't even use the freight elevator because she wasn't 18. I've never seen a huge company like this run so badly.
Every body is miserable at my store. Its an awfull job.

At least this women knows what supposed to be unlike many others. It's one thing to ignore what they want you to do but not even knowing is just as bad.Just look at many of the pain in butt useless rules she might refer to as A tool for future use.
I have associates give me a dirty stare on employee discounts when I tell them YOU are going to give me the cash when "shopping with their friend".They seem to forget they don't even want to give the appearance they are using their discount for someone else.

Malva 17 year old lead?
I thought there were labor violations for stuff like not getting a break or meal for those under 18 or that high schoolers had limits on their hours. They go through periods where they mark the ID badge so the mod knows to make sure this person gets a break simply because of their age.
Although all companies get tax breaks for hiring those on welfare food stamps etc so being a drop out and still 17 that person might very well fit one of those categories.
But I saw it as soon as ESL took over in 2005,mr ed decided to hire and promote those with less time and experience over those more mature and experienced employees. As soon as I heard they were hiring off the street for stuff like BC I realized he IS trying to send a message-out with the old and in with the new. He's gonna have an age discrimination suit against him sooner or later.

doube post-apologies
One last thing, when you hire or promote young or younger or with less time/experience you are also sending a message that YOU are currently unproductive or too expensive.Kind of hard even with a good retailer in that most in retail are over worked and under paid.
Eddie needs less experienced and younger people around him to feel like a king and pay like a peasant.

Quite frankly, it's not a very intelligent, valid, or even cordial argument to base someone's performance based solely on their age.
There are competent people that span all ages, young and old. I work with several very competent older guys that I know well and trust completely. As well, there are younger people my age who are just as competent at work.

Actually her mother works there and she turned 18 in a month or so.She lives at home with her parents... no kids so I don't think that would apply.

Don't knock us old-timers too hard, we've seen it all. We remember when we used to be proud to say that we worked for Sears..We also remember the blunders as well.. the selling off of Allstate Ins. co., the selling off of Discover Card that we all worked so diligently to get into the hands of America. Not to mention that our profit sharing accts that used to get two. three, or four times your own contributions amts. that you put in yearly. We remember when it took nearly a week to get a new account opened, and that was if you were lucky enough to get approved..now we will give it to anyone willing to spend up to 26% interest rate. We remember the fiasco over EDLP, Every Day Low Prices for those of you too young to remember. We remember when DM stood for division manager who could actually sort his dept. for things that actually sold in his or her store, instead of leaving that job to someone who doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground. We recall when you used to have commissions doubled when you reached a certain plateau in sales in HA. When coming to work meant dressing in tie and sport coat and looking professional, even if many weren't. So give us some slack, we've earned it.

That's life in the fast lane. No matter where you work, there's going to be someone there to make your life miserable.
I work with a guy who has to be the unhappiest sucker on the face of the earth. He could sell $7000 and have a PA % of 45% and he'd still be pissed off.
He comes in for opening and is pissed off because people didn't leave enough change or because people left too much change. "Good morning" is enough to start an argument with him.
Just do your job and ignore the bitch.

I was willing to give you some slack fluff, till your reply to brandmaster. Yes, it does give us the right to boss you around. You know why? BECAUSE WE HAVE LIVED IN THAT PLACE LONGER THAN YOU'VE BEEN ON THE PLANET. I know, that means little to you. You're obviously one of these people that thinks respect is your God given right and not something that's earned. Bullcrap. You have to prove yourself first (and something other than your mouth) to back it up. I started at Sears when I was 19 and the last thing I would've done was started shooting off my mouth about respesct and telling my supieriors to keep their opinions to themselves. I had nothing but respect for anyone that had 10, 15 or 20 years in back then. But I have teenage stepdaughters and I see how opinionated they are and have no problem telling people in authority when they think something they are told to do at their jobs "is stupid". You need to grow up a little fluff.
