No sense encouraging people to find the restrooms, because then you have to spend money on supplies and maintenance. It's better if they can't find it in Sears and go out to the mall instead...

But I'm not even just talking about restrooms.I think it was Ms Conway who I heard was dead set against signs of most kinds.Including signing for LE when Sears first bought it.Supposedly chickenman wasn't to thrilled that alot of stores made little or no effort to prominently display LE.
I know they even hate signing on a basic installation but all you have to do is prominently put stuff like code upgrades extra. They have a crap load of literature on what these PA supposedly do and yet no prices on PAs.Many stores put their PA prices in the weekly add.Staples now has literature on service agreement in chart form.Sports Authority spells out their prices a little more clearly.

I think it would be much easier if PAs were based on a straight percentage to dollar ratio. And if they actually would denote how much they cost on the signing.

Our bathroom has a huge sign hanging above it. Hell, there have been times where I've been standing below it or near it and people ask me where the bathroom is. People just don't read them.
I also hate it when people get pissed off at me because the bathroom is on the second level. Or they get mad at me when they are looking for the old bathrooms that we closed a couple of years ago. Not my fault it's upstairs. I'm so sick of the rolling eyes, the huffs and puffs, etc.
Use the damn bathroom before you leave the house. When I go shopping, I never have to use the bathroom. I've seen people come in the store at opening and go straight for the bathroom. Geez.
Oh yeah, and I love it when they get angry when the bathroom is closed for it's cleaning during the day. They say things like, "it's against the law!" etc, when it is not. Retailers are not required to have bathrooms in the store. It's something we offer. It's funny when they demand to use the employee bathroom and we tell them they aren't allowed because it's in the back. People are so spoiled these days, with bathrooms everywhere they go.

I always enjoy telling people the bathroom is directly opposite to where they are currently at. Literally my department is the farthest walking distance away from the facilities.
It does suck if you had Taco Bell for lunch and have to make a run for it, however.

We live in a single story mall and have a single story store, yet I have had people ask me where the escallators are, when I tell them this is a one story store they flat out tell me that I am wrong and that they were on the 2nd floor just the other day.
Also we moved electronics to the other side of the store 6 years ago. HI is now in that place, yet some people insist that we must have moved it only a few months ago.
Of course people always still ask for bikes, basketballs, golf clubs, etc. I have had people ask where the boats and boat parts are.
People always come into HI/L&G without model number "I bought this tractor here its a LG2000 about 3 years ago, I'm not too sure of the deck size but the tractor is green.....I need the thing that's kinda shiny on the front that attaches to the red thing"

StillSeared-bought this tractor 3 years ago
Brings up a good point in that I always felt the stores should be better equiped to handle parts.A better cross reference or parts book in a dept like L&G would not only help Sears customers better but it would help get other manufacturers as well.
Some bother to go the intranet and Sears Parts for info but too many don't.Alot of stuff should have a manual or reference. Our local Sears still has a L&G part book from 06,it definately ain't 08.Makes the company look incompetent(AGAIN)when you have obvious out of date references like that.

Maybe the bathrooms in your store are simply superior in cleanliness and comfort to those at their respective homes.

Why can't people come out and say it?
Atleast three-quarters of all people are retarded. Trust me, I worked at sears and now I work for a call center.... You would be amazed at how many people are unaware of the existence of area codes or zip codes....
People are just stupid and it will only get worse.

So just today, this older woman knocks on the MPU doors and I walk over and ask her if I can help her. She says somebody already asked her that and took her receipt and made it seem like someone just mugged her. I ask her if she caught his name- of course not. I ask her if it was one of us (the other three MPU guys had come up by this point) and she says "no, but if I see him, I'd recognize him." So I begin my own little interrogation ya know-
-Did he have a Sears name tag?
-"Oh he might have."
-Did he have glasses?
-"Oh he might have."
-Brown hair? Blonde?
-"Oh he might have."
-WTF
A couple hardlines MCAs were still around putting away the last of the truck, so I ask them and ask this woman if it was any of them. I call out to the electronics to see if one of those guys happened to talk to her.
All she wanted was to see if her cd player had come in yet since she ordered it two weeks ago and it's not (shocking, I know).
So after a solid ten minutes of all four MPU guys dealing with this haggard old woman, one of our LP guys comes over asks her for her receipt and she pulls it out of her purse.
She says "Oh my bad" and walks away...
WTF

In my old store we had all the hardlines on the 2nd floor. One day I had a woman get off the escalator and ask me how to get to the second floor. I'm like ma'am you're on it. She just stared at me like I was an idiot or something.

As far as people not knowing their soc I can see that. You have to remember you deal in soc sec #s/credit app process all day for a living,it might have been years since someone filled out a job app or credit card app but it happens. |
Or in the case of our store the ssn they just purchased.

'tard, eh? You know, your sensitivity never ceases to amaze me. It's obvious that there has never been a special needs child in your family.

Every so often I get someone asking me where the popcorn concession is...God, we haven't had the food concession in probably 15 years at least...tells you how long some of our customers come into the store... |
Years back, I worked in the Vacuum Department which was right at the mall entrance. A guy flew in like his pants were on fire, put his stuff down on the counter and said, "I need to look at a vacuum, but first I REALLY, need to use the bathroom". I very seriously explained to him that our bathrooms were out of order and we had porta pottys set up at the far end of the parking lot. His eyes got big, I thought he was gonna explode, so I said, "Just kidding. They're right down this aisle". He laughed after he got back.

some probably mentioned already, but here's mine:
-waiting around for approvals
-customers who slide their cards before i even start ringing
-getting yelled at for not checking IDs for credit cards even though the customers can just slide their cards themselves and put them away before we ever get a chance to look at them
-people who can't speak english and expect you understand them
-people who say no, they don't want a sears card b/c the interest is too high...um, we already know this. if you don't want one, just say no.
-people who take a ton of stuff in the fitting rooms and leave it in the actual rooms and not on the rack
-people who get mad when they have no receipt and want to return something from another store and we say no
-people who can't read signs
some others too probably that i can't think of now.

I think if I had to name a couple... one of the main ones would have been the Hispanic customers who came up and asked me in perfect English if I spoke Spanish and when I said no, ask me, again in perfect English, to point them to a Spanish speaking associate.
I'd usually hook them up with a buddy, Charlie, and after he'd dealt with the customer he'd come over and tell me he had no idea why the customer had wanted a Spanish speaking associate since they had conducted the entire transaction in English without either of them ever speaking a word of Spanish.
Racism sucks BOTH ways.

According to merchant's agreement between stores and the credit card companies, you aren't allowed to ask for IDs anyway. You can ask the customer to present the card and check the signature against the machine.
If there is no signature, then you can ask for ID and you need to tell the customer to sign the card. Putting "see ID" doesn't cut it. The card technically isn't valid until a REAL signature is on it.
I always check cards for siggies and then I ask for ID if there isn't.
It's not up to the store to catch credit card thieves. The credit card company can handle that themselves. The only responsibility we as cashiers have is to make sure the card is valid and to verify signatures.

My fav annoying things about sears customers are :
1) when they come in the front door and ask how to get into the mall, and no matter how clear I speak they can never understand they have to go up one level and exit the misses dept into the mall.
They stare at me like I have 10 heads because they have to go upstairs to get into the mall ... sorry our store was built first and our warehouse is on the 1st floor
2) when people ask where tools is when our 1st floor is mostly tools and appliances and have craftsman posters and signs everywhere !!!
3) when they ask where small appliances are and u tell them the 3rd floor and they're so amazed we have a 3rd floor even tho they shop here everyday
4) when you're giving your sale speech and they automatically want more discount off the item, when its already on sale, and I tell them u can save 15 dollars by opening a sears card lol but hatian people (no offense) are notorious for this ...
5) when people wanna buy the usually non working display model because suprise, were sold out of the original item the custormer wants to purchase, and even tho u explain you can't sell it because the store will be receiving more in soon they (the customer) insist on speaking to a manager just to hear what u just said all over again ....
Now what I hate about sears management ...
1) approvals take forever to be answered and they wonder why we get annoyed with them
2) management in my store love to hang out in the office and are barely ever on the floor
3) funny how people change once they get power, when I started this guy who was a lead in brand central was really cool and would help you no matter what and was awesome, after the holiday season he got promoted to manager of home improvement and the guy acts as if his shit doesn't stink and won't help anyone anymore. Won't even go to other depts to do approvals or answer customer assistance pages. Funny how people change when they think they're inportant ...
4) my store's answer to getting credit apps, is to not only annoy the associates and customers by abusing the intercom system with constant pages about wanting to save 10 or 15 dollars, by going to the registers and applying for a sears card , this gets done, no lie about 10 times an hour, and does nothing to help attaining sears card apps, it actually turns the customer off, especially since I work in brand central and saving 10 or 15 dollars is only peanuts off of their purchase, but its hard for them to hear our explanation of the product they're inquiring about because of the constant pages of sears card garbage.
5) if you think that's bad management also feels the need to thank every associate for getting a credit application, which hearing these announcements all day make my head want to explode like a scene out of the movie scanners ....
6) how my operations manager has a job is beyond me. The guy has no clue what he's doing, we've had broken price scanners in brand central for months upon months, my registers credit card computers don't load and won't work, so my dept has to resort to ice age old tactics like imprinting the customers card which in return annoys the customer, isn't sears all about customer service ?? All this guy knows is to make those annoying credit pages ... and you can't even understand a word he says !!!!!!
Ok I think I've rambled on enough for the time being ....
And I apologise in advance

This happened to me today and I forgot about it because it's been awhile since I played this game. I got a phone call from a lady that wanted info about paint. I was more than happy to answer her questions since I wasn't busy. She wanted to talk to a manager right away but I convinced her I could answer questions since I sold paint for a long time. She wanted to paint her porch and steps and wanted to know what would be the best thing to do right now. I told her wait till spring. She wanted to know why. I told her the temperature is really too cold to be painting ouside and to just wait till spring. She said the temperature was going to be in the 60's in our area and didn't understand what the problem would be so I explained to her that the night time temperature was going into the 40's and that was too cold. In a sarcastic tone she told me she wasn't painting at night and what the night time temperature had anything to do with it. I explained to her that outdoor paint really needs a consistent 50 or above temperature for a solid 3 days for it to adhere correctly. Again she threw in my face the DAYTIME temperature was going to be in the 60's for the next 3 days and that I didn't know what I was talking about and to get a manager for her. I told her that the night time temperature effects the paint job and if it gets below 50 during the night, her concrete porch would be colder. I explained the consequences of the paint peeling too early if she did this job right now. I tried as hard as I could that I was trying to prevent her from having problems down the road and from redoing a job like that twice. She yells at me "I just don't see what the problem is if it's going to be in the 60's right now, why I can't paint if I want?"
My pet peeve? People who call asking for advice and want to argue because you didn't say what they wanted to hear. I really wanted to tell this lady, "Do whatever the hell you want. I don't give a shit what you do."
