So I put in an application for a new lowes in NM. I am currently in a lead position and applied for one here. I got a call 2 days later to come in for an interview. I get there and they sit me down and ask what I do in my current job. After telling her, she says well this is what we have left. She handed me a sheet for a CSA which is just someone walking around and asking people "may I help you".

Is it standard practice at lowes to invite someone for an interview and then just say well heres whats left since everything was givin away this morning? It just sux because I changed my work schedule for this and it lasted about 5 minutes.

Well thats my rant and rave. Just dosnt seem like a professional way to handle the hiring process.

If it is a new store a large portion of the people hired will not last six months. You should have accepted the lower position of a csa. The movement in new stores goes really fast. Don't be offended because they could have told you that they only had an even lower entry level position open. If they would have paid you more than you are making now as a csa why scoff at the position? If they weren't going to and you need a higher salary immediately move along.

Good luck in whatever you chose to do.

I think Lowes likes to hear certain key words and phrases during an interview. I researched this and used those key words and phrases A LOT during my three interviews. I was hired as a team leader.

Actually a CSA is not just someone that walks around and asks people "May I help you". You may want to reread that job description. Either that or they may not have felt you deserved anything higher than a CSA position but decided to offer you a job anyways.

Right now we too are on a hiring freeze. We're just not replacing people when they leave. The only areas that can have new hires right now are cashiers or loaders. Just a bad time of the year.

Right now is not the time to be looking for a job. They are saying every retailer will lose money in 2009, Its just a matter of how much. Corporate has a standard operating procedure for situations like this. Many times this will include the firing of a high ranked person such as a district manager. This sends a message to everyone that nobody is safe and you could be next. As sales numbers drop, you will be asked to do more with less. Get use to it and adjust your attitude if needed. Right now, be glad you have a job at all.

As far as the interview goes, I've seen a lot worse from many other companies. My girlfriend had been looking for a month and couldnt wait a second longer. She accepted a position that was almost absurd for her skills. Couple weeks later one of the companies she was hoping to attain a position callled. She had two interviews and had to leave her new current postion during the shift both times. They called for a third interview and told her that she must go to corporate that was 60 miles each way from her house. Then they called back again and said it was pretty much a done deal and the only thing left was the doctors physical and drug test. This was also 60 miles both ways. Missing now her fourth day from her new job, she was fired. Couple days later she got a call from the new company stating they would be setting up a start day within two weeks. She had a sigh of relief to say the least. Two weeks go by and nothing. She calls but they dont return her calls. Four days later she gets a letter stating according to her physical, she stated she is a past smoker on her physical exam form and is no longer considered a candidate for employment.

Another friend just got hired by Honda. They dont hire direct and he had to work at Honda through a temp company for over 5 years to even become eligible for hire. Honda also requires the temp company lay you off for 30 days at a time every so often. The reasoning behind that.....I have no idea.

???

There's a strong possiblity that might be illegal under the HIPPA laws.

Just like if a company asks why someone was fired from a job that's illegal, asking a women if she plans to have children is illegal etc.

Reguarding that job I guess it depends on what you are making and what they offered. Companies tend not to hire much in the winter...but on the same side of things if they lied they might be right out the door too. Most management doesn't last any longer than a few years in the higher levels.

in Right To Work states, you can do about anything you want. I worked at the Mirage in Las Vegas and a cocktail waitress would walk into work and find a termination slip along with a security officer to escort them off the casino ground. Reason for termination you ask. How about her looks no longer fit the image the casino is trying to present. In simple terms, she just turned 26 years old and the casino feels they are ugly or could use a boob job.

Then there is the Rio casino where my ex works. They get weighed every Monday. Not falling within allowed range equals a 7 day notice to comply before termination. Of course they allow a 2 lb variance if you have implants.

I'd just bring up with the labor board. Companies are deathly afraid of their image. Besides after the unite here strike of the 90's it doesn't take long for a walkout on a casino....after that 10 year strike vegas backed down.

When a company says they are losing money or project a loss for the next calender or fiscal year, it means, in almost all cases, they will not make as much as the previous year or they will not make projected profit. Example being: a company earns 50 million profit in 2007 and then earns $35 million in 2008, they lost $15 million. Or a company projects a profit of $50 million and only actually earns $35 million, they lost $15 million. Most companies that operate in the true "red", do not last long. I worked 30 years for a large company. At most contract negoations, they cried "we are losing money". They would never open their books to us. They are still in business.

All public companies have to open their books now though. In order to comply with Sorbanes Oxley
