I thought I'd start this poll because I've noticed that the closer we get to Christmas, the men buy pajamas and robes for their wives/mothers. How about it? What do you notice?

I think an awful lot of them buy perfume. On Christmas Eve, our shelves are bare!

Perfume is quick and easy.....

I also like it because it is personal to the person of whom it is given to, no body else is generally going to use it.

Makes me think about the one year dear old dad bought my mom a set of new pots and pans for Christmas. Every year after that, all mom's gifts from dad were definately better (i.e. jewelry, etc) and all the gift tags were in my mother's handwriting. Men are clueless. Very Happy

A videogame console! No wait, that's for themselves! Forget it! Just give them cash so they can buy their own damn gift because they make them return it anyway!

Work in fine jewelry and see what crap gets returned by a wife or girlfriend. Sometimes I have to ask myself why bother getting a gift at all!

I think I told you guys before about the lady that returned a bracelet that her friend had given her for Christmas. Well...the return price came up as $2.99, which made the lady really mad and she said, "She can consider me no longer her friend!". She threw the bracelet on the counter and walked off without even getting her store credit! The bad part about it was that this was before we had crl's, so the friend COULD have paid more than $2.99 for the bracelet, since w/o a receipt you get the lowest price in 30 days, and they take off any coupons that were available.

Note to self: If you buy a really cheap gift, DO NOT give them the CRL or gift receipt!
I always feel bad when someone comes in with a gift receipt and finds out that the item was really cheap. There's no way for me to sugar coat it for them if they have a gift receipt, or there is a CRL attached. If they don't have either of those, I just tell them that it's the lowest price within the last 30 days, and we had a big sale, etc. That can make them feel a little better.

The worst was when a lady came in with a gift card that someone had given her and told her that it was worth $100.00, so she shopped and got a pile of stuff, only to find out that the card had never been activated! Someone just grabbed a blank gift card and gave it to her! The shame!

This happends constanly in the kids department. Moms return mulitiply shower gifts only to find that the giver only spent anywheres from $2.99 - $7.99 on the gift. I try and tell the mom that the giver got a real good deal with coupons. What's worse is the mother-in-law buying for the grandchild. Cheap asses, and not really caring. You can tell if the in-laws get along just by the reaction. It's sometimes hilarious.

Oh............man. That reminds me of a mild-mannered, well-to-do dad returning a Christmas gift a few years ago. His adult kids bought him a Nautica polo shirt and it was obviously too big for him. They didn't give him a receipt but had left most of the tag attached (price portion had been clipped), and had given it to him in a store box. I was a selling manager at the time and remembered the fashion group the shirt was from -- it had exited the store ALMOST A YEAR earlier. When I told him the most I could offer in credit for return, I thought he was gonna cry. Seriously.

I felt so, so, sorry for him. He seemed like a really nice guy.

I so wanted to hunt down the brats and hit them with a shovel. Repeatedly.
