| Yes that topic is 6 years old and yes vacation goes "poof" at the end of every fiscal year. Our HR started telling people in October that if you had vacation time to request it ASAP or you'd lose it. Pretty cut and dry in the policy. | |

| Well you can't save it up like you can with sick time. I don't know any place that allows you to save up vacation for more than a year. Now what you earn will go up as you work more but that's natural | |

| There are a couple of states which allow for vacation to be rolled over to the next year. One of these states is California. I can't remember off of the top of my head where the other employee friendly state is located. | |

The military does, or at least did back when I was in, you'd earn 30 days for each year. I was in for 6 years and when I got out I sold back 56 days of leave. |

| California also allows you to cash out sick time when you leave. I've also worked at a place where you could cash out sick time for I think 40%. it was nice for awhile | |

Sorry- but I really don't understand this topic. Why dredge up a 6 year old post- Lord knows how and why you found it, and why would you say vacation time 'going poof' is a 'new thing?'. How long have you been with Lowes?

Because policy issues can change from one year to another and ... the rest of us posters are interested, that's why. If there are posts on this board of which you find no interest ... just pass on them. That's what the rest of us do. |

If you are a new employee in a store that opened in 2008, it gets even more complicated. The rules change and some vacation from 2008 carries over into 2009 but only until end of March I believe. Then it goes POOF. I know because because many associates are in an uproar at my newer store.
The same might apply if you are a new employee at any store and started in 2008 but I cant say for sure. The problem is that if you are a new employee in a new store, the same might be said of the HR person. That HR person might not realize this occurs. |
