What does this company hate the sales associates so much? I'm talking about HATRED. They treat us like packmules, lie to us constantly, and cheat us out of many things. Why? Don't they realize that happy employees work HARDER??? The employee morale in my store must be the lowest in the country. I know people who work in WALMART who get higher pay and are treated better than employees in my Macy's. Why do they hate us? Why??? Why do they continually lie to us? Why? We are so beaten down that we just HATE to come to work. It has gotten to the point that we actually refuse to do any cleaning any more. We just stand at the register like zombies and between customers we stand around bitching about Macy's.

why dont you quit? just come to work and do the best you can, just like any other job

It's simple- retail companies (and just about all other companies) don't value their employees. The longer you're there, the more of a liability you are. Retail employees are completely replaceable. The only job security you have is through a union.

Hey, that's the magic of Macy's. You're right, they don't give a rats ass about us. Instead of "You Count," it's "screw you."
You're right, they want us to bend over backwards for customers (even though customer service doesn't mean squat to them), do everything and more that our managers ask, yet we've got to ask and ask and beg to get a vacation day approved, or to get a day off.

its not only retail that is doing this...THEY DONT WANT FULL TIME WORKERS..that why they are making life a hell..Unions are good if the backers behind them are strong As a old saying goes UNITED WE STAND DIVIDED WE FALL..I will say, this history always repeat itself some way..

wow, cesar. you are NOT alone. it sounds EXACTLY like my store. exactly.
i truly believe they want to wear us down so we will all quit and they can get newbies to work at minimum wage and since they are new, they will be "yes" men/women and will do whatever gsm's ask em to do !!

Yes, look at all the Chrysler and GM (union all) blue collar workers who's job security was worthless when their lucrative benefit and pay deals, in part, caused both of these companies to nearly fail.
Near where I live, within 20 miles of each other, there is a GM and a Chrysler assembly plant which, within 18 months of each other, shut down. Probably 5000 people out of a job.
How's that union "security" for ya'!

I think you're overly generalizing...I don't think anyone "hates" the associates...sounds like your store has issues, though. If you know they're lying to you, why don't you, next time it happens, throw it back at them...question authority...they hate it when anyone does this, as it shows them that you're smart and have more information then they'd like!
Anyway, I'm not really sure why you're still working there, are you married to Macy's?...why don't you go work at Wal-mart, if you think it's better...believe me, it ain't! I think Macy's associates, believe it or not, have it a little better than most retailers...think about Kohl's crazy hours and sales, Walmart's track record on employee issues (forced overtime) and their overall level of associate quality, Target's extreme analism, Home Depot and Lowe's smocks, etc, etc, etc...

i feel your pain, cesar. i really do. i asked myself that same question, MANY MANY nites. damn if i know. NO one in the friggin store (and company, it seems - cept MLB and other good people) knows how to manage people. their big motivators are fear and trepidation. for some reason, they think if you are afraid that you won't get a raise, or have a chance of losing their job, you will do whatever they ask of you. and that includes harassing customers every day to open credits , give to this charity, give to that charity, etc. etc.

you are right they treat me like crap unless you kiss their ass that is how you get treated no matter how long you have been there and how good you are

No, they don't care about us. We are puppets for management's scorecard. My manager doesn't like giving me time off because "it will hurt my scorecard". bullshit I say. I'm entitled to vacation days and weekend rotation. I WANT THEM.
I tell you, that last month I worked 2 days (ODS), meet my sales goal, got my 3 credits, and items per transaction/hr. and I scored 90 on my scorecard for the week!
