I sat down the other day with schedules and vital stats and came up with some numbers and comparisions that I want to share here. I am also going to pass these on to G.O. in a letter so that they can see how these stores are being mis-managed.
In my department, which is plumbing, we had 126 hours sheduled. That is 1 specialist and 2 fulltime. During that same week, we did over 11% of the sales in the store (the highest percentage of all departments). Millwork had 186 hours scheduled and only did 7%. Home Decor had 136 hours and did a whopping 2%. Only 1 department has less hours than us scheduled, and that is tool world. In this study, I only looked at csa and specialists. Not department managers, as we are told they are not considered coverage.
In plumbing we are getting yelled at and cussed out by customers because they have to wait forever to get any help back there. We go to managment and ask for more help, and get told we are complaining, and that the store is way over budget. Now, we are preached too that your numbers depends on how much help you get. I understand the district manager complaining about too many hours in our store. We have a freight team of 4 full time and a recieiving department of 6 full time (not counting the manager and rtm clerk). Right there is 400 hours which can have some cut. They always ask plumbing to do code 50's during the day, because we only have a loader at night. We are already short handed in our department and have customers complaining about lack of help there, s why do they pull us. During the day, recieving and freight teams should also double up as loaders.
We are a small store, but have more people in installed sales and commercial sales than our larger stores, and don't even do 1/2 the business they do.
I guess what I am trying to say is look at your vital stats (available every monday morning in 9.5) and compare it to the department schedules and you may be shocked. I can see why some people are happy with Lowe's, they have plenty if not excess (in lowe's world) of coverage. The bad part is we keep our department clean, downstocked, and get out freight up the fastest. The departments with an over abundance of manpower can not do that, so we suffer. Shows how fairness happens in our store!!!

Thanks for listening
